Non-rust cupcake tin?? Does it exist?

I’ve tried about 4 different cupcake tins and they all end up going rusty!! Anyone got a recommendation for one that doesn’t? I’m not keen on using the silicone plastic ones (I read the plastic can leech into the food). Thanks in advance

Ignore me - mis read your post!

Silicone but use double paper cases? The paper cases I use are very decorative but come with like a grease proof case as well. These protect the pretty case from grease in my tins, would that stop plastic seeping- although personally not heard of that.

I have stainless steel cupcake trays. They don't rust. I also use them to make Yorkshire puddings!

I have the non stick type, although I always use cupcake cases anyway, they are ancient at this stage and have never rusted, some I even bought in pound shop sort of places and they are actually the best ones.

The plain metal ones will rust if not dried properly although I have two of those that must be 40odd years old and while not rusted are black looking the way they go with use. I never put any of those tins in a dishwasher (have only had a dishwasher past couple of years anyway) and I always put them in the cooling oven to dry fully.

I’ve never had them rust ever, are you drying them properly, or scratching them with utensils?

dementedpixie · 19/04/2024 18:16

How are you washing them?
Mine have never rusted. I wash mine by hand and always use cupcake cases

I was hoping for some recommended brands of tin? Thank you 🙏

Mine has no brand and was bought in the supermarket.

I've had lots of different types of cake tins for decades, some were my grandmother's so at least 50 years old, none have ever rusted. Some are non stick, lots bought in the supermarket. But I never put them in the dishwasher.
If you buy a mid range non-stick from any supermarket and hand wash it I'm pretty sure it won't rust.

I have bought brands over the years but oddly enough the pound shop ones are my best and favourite so brand is no indication! It's the care I think is where you must be going wrong. Buy non stick even though it means nothing as you won't be baking bare in them as such but it gives a protection to the metal, plain metal will need very careful drying, I always put them into the oven as it cools as no amount of tea towel will drive the crevices. I don't a dishwasher is a good plan either and be careful not to scratch a non stick one with anything sharp. I have never had to replace a cupcake tin and I used to bake for markets so baked hundreds every week (in my pound shop tins), they are all very old at this stage so just buy anyone that looks the size/shape you want and mind them.

I think both of my cupcake tins are from supermarkets.

How are you washing them? I wash mine (actually, it is usually DH) by hand and let them air dry. Neither of them have rusted.
Do you put them in the dishwasher?

Anonlon.

Putting them in the dishwasher will rust them BTW.
