A little bit healthier!

Hello

Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can improve my kids diets?

For the last few years they have been surviving on chicken nuggets and chips. All the stories in the news these days have made me realise i need to give them slightly healthier options but im pretty sure they wont be keen to do this. At the moment they love nothing more that eating chips in front of the playstation!

Any ideas on how i can get them a little healthier?

Thanks

Fruit Shoots? Sausage rolls?

Give them a mini buffet of new finger foods to try. Carrot sticks, houmous and advocado dips, steamed brocolli, sweet potato chips, mini beef burgers. Perhaps a mixed bean salad? Get them to have a green bean eating competition?
Try them with mild curry, with chips if need be to start and then with rice.

Sorry for faectious response!

What about making your own nuggets and chips with fresh chicken and potatoes? You can use breadcrumbs or crushed crackers for the coating and bake them in the oven, then chop up your potatoes into chip shapes, parboil then bake at the same time. Corn on the cob normally goes down well too.
How old are they?

A good one is hame made pizza. That can be healthy. Just buy ready made bases if you dont want to make the dough and top with tomato sauce (use a pasta sauce) and cheese/meat/mushrooms etc...
My dc love helping to make them.

im going around the bend with then. they just dont seem to want to eat healthy food! your recipe sounds like a plan.

I just need to find out how to get them off the damn couch now. dont really want to let them out alone though. never know who is around these days. any tips on how to get them active!

The thing is (sorry if this sounds harsh), they will carry on eating crap in front of the playstation as long as you LET them do it. Meals at the table sounds a good way of starting off, perhaps beginning with something you know they like but served with wedges and salad, rather than chips.

Letting them make their own pizzas is a good idea. Wraps are fun too - fry up quorn or chicken, with peppers, onions and spices and stuff into warmed wraps with salad, sour cream and salsa.

Noodles with soy beans etc are another idea; my 2 cook these for themselves now.

Family walks, bike rides, swimming, iceskating, tennis in the park, rollerblading - do any of these appeal?

I get mine to have a good run around at the park sometimes or if the weather is bad, a soft play area.
Swimming is always good and they usually enjoy it.
Remember, you are setting them up for life and if they dont get them out and enjoy a more active life now then they may never!
Mine love the playstation but I restrict it so they never use it on a school night, just at weekends and even then I limit how long they are on it.
You could use the playstation as a reward for trying new food or new activities.
