Filling supper for 1 year old

DD is 14 months and has started waking up at night hungry. She has 3 meals in the day (8am, 11.30 and 3.30) at nursery, then is starving when she gets home around 5.15, so I've been giving her Weetabix - usually eats 11/2 or 2; then has her milk - 8oz or, lately, 12oz - at about 7.15.

What do other children eat before bed and what might fill her up better than the Weetabix seems to be doing??

I know other friends give their lo's yoghurts and banana when they get back from nursery. There's more protein in a yoghurt so likely to stay full for longer. She does sound v hungry if she's managing to eat 2 weetabix when she gets home. Does she eat much of her tea at 3.30? I have another friend who just asks nursery to do the yoghurt and fruit thing at 3.30 so their ds has something to eat while everyone else is eating, and then gives him tea at 5.30 at home. Not v convenient for you though. (Sorry - can't give any direct experience, my dd is at a cm and they all do tea at 5).

A banana is a very good idea before bed. Maybe a banana with some toast?

How much of the tea does she eat at 3.30?

I would be tempted to give her a full meal at 5.30. If she's eating up to two weetabix she is obviously hungry. And look upon the 3.30 "tea" as an afternoon snack. The weetabix will fill her up to begin with but I'm not surprised she's waking hungry.

On nursery days DS has "tea" at 4pm which is various finger foods then comes home and has full dinner then his milk and biscuit before bed.

We often have pancakes for supper if I know that the ds's have only had a light tea.

Cheese on toast or beans on toast is another easy to prepare and filling hot supper although beans on toast is hardly finger food.

3.30 seems very early for her last 'meal'.

I would give her things like French toast, scrambled eggs etc. Anything with protein will fill her for longer than something like weetabix.

Just found this thread as I was about to post almost the same question. My dd has tea at 4pm at nursery and I think she has the same problem. On non nursery days, what time do other typically give their little ones tea?

On non nursery days my DS (1 year old) has tea at 5pm or 5.30pm - usually french toast spread with no sugar jam n cut into fingers - he loves it. Or sometimes some noodles, mushrooms and an omelette all chopped up. Or a pizza made with muffin chopped in half n topped with 1 mushroom and 1 tomato all chopped up and topped with some edam and grilled then cut into bite size pieces. All usually followed by half a fruit pot.

mme they're all diff so not sure if my ds's routine would help. He is 13 months and also has 3 meals a day 8am, 12.30 ish and 5.30 is then milk before bed (and 1st thing in am). he also has snacks mid morning and mid afternoon- like half a pear or a slice of raisin toast. For his tea he would have something like fish pie, spag bol, chicken cous cous- about a coffe mug size amount and then if still hungry some pud- yog, rice pud etc....I know he eats quite a lot compared to some of hi peers but his last emal of day is later and more- perhaps the 3.30 meal is just a snack for your dc and she needs somehting more like pasta etc?
