How long before you would chuck away frozen pitted cherries?

I have bags of pitted cherries in my freezer that I picked, pitted and froze in July 2006.

Would you chuck em?

I was wondering if it might still be OK to maybe make jam from them as the really high temperatures would kill off any nasties.

I am being a bit daft and sentimental because I planted the cherry trees myself in my garden; it's the house I bought by myself and have loved dearly, and I suspect that I may have moved house this year before they fruit again. So they are 'last chance cherries'.

But I'm not so sentimental that I'd poison family and friends with rotten old fruit.

Thoughts, anyone?

If you are still there...... I wouldn't even have looked at the date! Your stock control is obviously better than mine. If it's any help I used blackberries picked several decades ago in a crumble and they were fine. Jam gets so hot it'll kill anything and everything (though can't for the life of me think what might be lurking in a cherry!).

'Course, I'm no culinary/hygiene expert..

no, I'd eat them.

cherries probably wouldn't have lasted that long in my freezer though...

I've got some that I pitted and froze last July - but I really don't know what to do with them. I'm not a jam maker, and I suspect I don't have enough for that.

Oh fab, thanks Arriety! Course, I've never made jam, so now I'm going to have to work out how to do that.

thanks for the response

Agree with Arriety - I have never thrown away anything frozen, unless I knew it had previously thawed, or it looked/smelt bad.

jackie - just boil with a little water, and some sugar until the liquid is like thin custard. then pour on ice cream.

Thanks also senora and Jackie. I'd have picked more last year but babycarrot made an unexpected early appearance at picking time, and the blackbirds got there first.

off to find recipes...

senora - thank you - that sounds nice. I could do Jubilee Pancakes like they used to do in Little Chef . Yum. I used to love those.
