Throw it. Lifes too short.

Smithagain · 30/03/2008 22:09

If it still looks and smells OK, I would be inclined to freeze it, but eat it later this week, very well cooked. If it looks and smells iffy, chuck it.

And don't blame me if you get ill!

PollyPentapeptide · 30/03/2008 22:09

cook it, it wont be off (there will be a good few days in it yet)

too much unecessary wastage of food imo and supermarkets want you to throw it away so that you have to go back and buy some more!!!

SlartyBartFast · 30/03/2008 22:10

i woudl freeze it.

Soprana · 30/03/2008 22:11

if you've sniffed it and don't feel like barfin, then cook it... ditto smithagain on too much waste - sell by dates are supermarkets covering their arses...

moondog · 30/03/2008 22:11

I'd cook it up tonight or tomoorw. Will be fine. I nver ever throw owt.

pucca · 30/03/2008 22:12

I would throw it, pork is too dodgy, not worth it for me, and know loads of people ill off pork because it was under cooked or off.

VanillaPumpkin · 30/03/2008 22:12

Cook it.

avenanap · 30/03/2008 22:12

It has apple and stuff stuffing inside so I wouldn't notice if it was smelly or not. They are so tasty though, it would break my heart to throw it. Yesterday isn't too bad??? My fridge is very cold. Hmm.

If it smells OK (and you will know if it doesn't ) then cook it asap.

I just froze some sausages dated 27/03

WendyWeber · 30/03/2008 22:13

Oh, do overcook it a bit though just in case

avenanap · 30/03/2008 22:16

I'll cook it first thing in the morning if it smells ok. It's not as if it's got a timer inside that makes it go off if it's past it's sell by date. I'm sure people managed before they had sell by dates. Thankyou ladies .

i did the same WW.
they were 2 days out of date.
HELP, and flung them in the freezer quickly.

will have forgotten by the time we eat them

avenanap · 30/03/2008 22:20

I have no space in the freezer. It's full of meat that went out of date the same day it was frozen. I think I buy too much food.

know th efeling ave
must have a eat the food from the freezer week,
or something

mehdismummy · 30/03/2008 22:23

omg are you mad! Out of date means out of date. Pork is not a good thing to take a risk with. Of course it has not got a self timer but do you really want to be eating something that was killed weeks ago? I have had to do a two day course for food and hygiene and trust me if you knew what i knew you would never reheat or cook out of date of food again. The video was stomach clenching!

avenanap · 30/03/2008 22:24

It's the bloody supermarket that's to blame. I always think 'that looks nice' and most of the time it ends up in the freezer. They sell too much stuff, there's too much choice. I used to live off frozen food when I was a child so now I feel bad giving it to my ds (weird!). It just stays in the freezer. It's sad isn't it?

I've had pork sausages that were a couple of days out of date (by accident). I wasn't ill.

NutterlyUts · 30/03/2008 22:32

I've just eaten some chilli mince that was made on Tues and has been in a tupperware container in my fridge since.. I hope to god I'll be oki but it smelt fine. .

avenanap · 30/03/2008 22:36

My neighbour managed to make her christmas day turkey last a week after cooking it. That was brave! Chilli has spices, this will preserve it (??). Neighbour is always telling me tales of her friend cooking curry and leaving it on the cooker for a few days to fester before eating it. It's possible she's full of shit though

fishie · 30/03/2008 22:37

it is more likely to be ok than not. your choice. and lots of meat is left to hang (where butchery/supply standards are high, usually not supermarket) so distance between death and eating isn't necc a primary consideration. not pork though. i would eat it but i eat everything unless it is really off.

fishie · 30/03/2008 22:39

aven i made a turkey last 8 days to date and planning to make sandwiches tomorrow! (although it may have had it, haven't looked today) food really does go off visibly you know, it smells and becomes slimy and the texture changes, it isn't just 'bad' with no sign of it.

princessmel · 30/03/2008 22:39

I know people that cook roast chicken then leave it out ,in the dish all night, then eat it over the next few days. They are never ill.

avenanap · 30/03/2008 22:43

I think the supermarkets have made people paranoid so we throw more things away and go back to them to replace them. I did buy some chicken from M&S last week, the were in date when I opened them but were a bit smelly so I threw them away. I suppose I should just trust my instincts. And my nose.

OP posts:
mehdismummy · 30/03/2008 22:48

perhaps instead of having out of dates(obviously a lie) we should just say dont eat this if it is smelly or slimy! Seriously just because you were not ill once it doesnt mean you wont be ill this time!
