I’m wanting to make my own kefir. Any tips? Where can I buy some good kefir grains?

Just met up with a friend who has started using this and swears she feels much healthier and has more energy. She never mentioned the taste,

I don’t think I’ve noticed a change physically but I’m sure it must be doing my gut some good!

No unfortunately it’s not mild intolerance - although I do think lots of water kefir has helped tone it down (life’s too short not to nibble a bit of cheese now and again! I have never been able to tolerate milk though!).

I do sometimes buy the oat or the coconut milk kefir - but it’s very expensive! I think that’s why I started making water kefir!

The water kefir grains ferment very quickly in warmer weather too!

Our child was intolerant of cow's milk for a couple of years following an infection. Kefir made with goats milk cured it.

I have started making pickles too (radishes and cucumbers at the moment) and occasionally sour kraut and kimchi!

I love fermenting - might be getting a bit obsessed!

I also think I’ve moved from just lactose intolerance to full milk intolerance- went to a friends for dinner recently and she made a dish with ‘lacto free’ milk - same reaction as normal milk! I used also to be able to tolerate goats milk but unfortunately no longer 😔

I tried making milk kefir with bought grains but it never went thick and creamy like supermarket kefir, I gave up after a while! It tasted like thin gone off milk with a fizz.

How long did you give it? As mine took about a week to get going with regular milk changes before it became palatable and nice to drink and also when I started using jersey milk that made it chicken and creamier I found too.
