Baby friendly dairy free party food ideas

Hi all. We’ve got a christening in a couple of weeks and we’ve all been asked to bring one baby-friendly but dairy-free (just milk products, doesn’t extend to eggs if you’re wondering) dish.

Struggling for inspiration. What would you make? Ideally that’s both approx 1 year old and adult friendly for everyone to enjoy?

I would probably prefer to avoid allergens like nuts as there’ll be a few babies there who have been eating solids for a few months but I can’t say how many allergens they’ve had yet and I’d rather not worry about this tbh.

Finally, I’d rather not take something there’ll already be loads of. Eg I can imagine something like cupcakes and other sweet dishes will be popular so brought by many.

Thank you!

Babies should be able to eat anything adults can with then exception of whole nuts and honey.

So go for good finger food options like crudités with hummus, little sandwiches, mini sausage rolls, cocktail sausages. Strawberries. Oatcakes and cheese cubes etc.

Not sure cheese cubes are a good idea. I agree with bits of finger food though, although I’d avoid cocktail sausages as they are easy to choke on.

Frittata cut into wedges might work well and be something a bit different

Ham sandwiches made with dairy free spread (or no butter at least), although you'll need to check if you use reformed ham as it often has lactose added.

Salted crisps

Breadsticks

Puff pastry twists (jus rol or supermarket pastry is usually dairy free)

Salted tortilla chips with mild salsa

Devilled eggs

Fruit kebabs

Rice cakes

Potato wedges

A lot of frozen party food (eg bhajis, samosas, spring rolls etc) is dairy free but check packaging.

Cheese cubes are dairy.

Fruit fingers? Maybe melon.

I am aware of this… that’s why I said they aren’t a good idea.

Ha, I read that as for other reasons.

No I was poking fun at the poster as OP started a thread specifically about ‘dairy free’ party food and the second poster in says cheese 🤦‍♀️ not sure that would make OP very popular at the party!

Big bunch of small bananas
Egg mayo using Heinz vegan mayo*, in small sandwiches or on crackers

*this is really good stuff

InMySpareTime · 07/04/2024 12:51

Normal mayo is milk-free, sometimes ketchup has lactose.

Jelly oranges are so cute and fun. You cut an orange in half and remove the insides with a spoon. Then fill the cavity with jelly liquid and set in the fridge. Once set you can cut into segments. This looks so sweet and colourful, kids love them.

I was going to suggest this. I made a couple for a small buffet a couple of years ago and every time we've got together with the same group since I've been asked to bring one. So simple and cheap, but it seems not something people make themselves
