Ds is now refusing to drink milk - any alternatives, please?

He's had an awful vomiting and diarrhoea bug this week and seems scared of drinking milk (I think he's confused because I said he couldn't have any when he was ill and now he thinks milk was the cause of his vomitng etc) Up until now he was addicted to the stuff.

He's also a very fussy eater so introducing new food is a major problem (if not almost impossible).

How much dairy do young children really need?

How old is he? Often a good idea to avoid dairy after a bout of D&V anyway.

Mercy
actually they don't need dairy ( I only know as my son is allergic to all dairy), it is just a very easy way to get calcium in to them.
My DS2 drinks water. I would just let him drink watered down juice or water until he is ready to try milk again.

Ds is just 4, so not a delicate baby or anything.

I'm just a bit worried because he is a poor eater anyway. I can't think of any calcium alternatives that he might eat (brain not functioning due to disturbed nights)

Dried figs are a fab source of calcium - would he go for those? Or sardines (guessing not if he's a poor eater)?

well dairy other than milk - yogurts, cheese are probably easiest. My DS eats provamel puddings which are soya but taste really nice.
He also isn't going to get calcium probalems over a few days. Don't worry. He has just been ill and he will get back to normal ( including sleep) soon.

I always switch to soy milk for a week or so after d & v. This is a good one

Thank you all.

I'll try the provamel puddings first I think.

I'm probably old guard in thinking that children need a pint of milk every day.

Not related to this thread but I have to publicly state that ds tried a new food the other day - bacon!!
