What do you use your food processor for?

I'm not really a cook. I'm hoping to start doing more cooking soon. I have a magimix gathering dust and I should probsbly try to use that. What sort of thing do you use yours for? It's just me and one adult DC at home.

Shredding for coleslaw

Some recipes such as pasta dough or pizza

Cakes and biscuits

We used it to make baby food.

Other than that I use it to mix cheesecake ingredients, churn up stuff for sauces, occasionally slice veg. It's not a large one but suits us.

Cakes. I love it - just drop everything in and press the button 😊 of course this can’t be done with cakes that are meant to have individual pieces in the cooked product eg sultanas, chocolate chips, but these can be folded and by hand into the processed batter.
I made these last week using my FP and they turned out well

Mary Berry's chocolate brownies

Mary Berry's chocolate brownies are super easy for kids as you just measure everything into one bowl and mix it together!

A food processor makes shortcrust pastry in a flash.
Crumble topping
Slicing potatoes for dauphinois etc.
Grating carrot, onion, cabbage to make coleslaw.
Houmous and dips.
Falafels.
Grating large quantities of cheese.
Chopping large quantities of veg.
Breadcrumbs.
Chopping biscuits for cheesecake base.
Scones.
Buttercream.
Blending soups( with blender attachment)
Blending sauces.
Chopping nuts.
Pureeing fruit for coulis.
Blending ingredients for curry sauces.

I use my Kenwood Chef for making cakes and biscuits, meringues, steamed puddings, whipping large amounts of cream, whipped fillings etc.

Just makes food prep so much easier and quicker.

I chop up onions. I also chop root veg to hide in things like spaghetti sauce and Shepherds Pie. I blitz biscuits for a base for desserts. It makes brilliant pastry.

I've got arthritis in most joints so I use mine to:

Grate cheese - usually a whole block that I then put in a bag.

Grate anything else, carrots, courgettes, cabbage.

Slice veg.

Mine has a disk that whips cream in seconds - ideal for cheesecake (the fridge kind not baked).

Breadcrumbs.

Juicing oranges.

Blitzing chicken liver pate, well blitzing the cooked ingredients.

Making Yorkshire pudding batter.

Blitzin frozen bananas to make vegan 'ice cream'.

Make mayonnaise.

Mine has the best motor I could afford and lots of add on bits so it was a blender and a mini chopper as well as the main bowl.

Soluckyinlove · 12/04/2024 11:34

My Kenwood food processor lives on my worktop and gets used for something most days. It is very easy to clean or it would probably live in the back of a cupboard with the juicer.

It makes amazing pastry in a couple of minutes.

I make buns with it, again a couple of minutes.

I use it for grating cheese, carrots, etc

I make breadcrumbs

I zap celery, carrot onion and mushrooms to mix with mince for tomato based sauces.

I zap paté

I have made peanut butter

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

I don't use it for soups or milkshakes or mayonnaise as I tend to just zap them with my stick blender.

I cook a lot and the magimix lives on the counter

Yesterday stuffed pork fillet - it made my breadcrumbs and fine diced the onions and herbs

I had a lot of parsnips on the turn - sliced in seconds to make curry parsnip soup

Manky bananas - banana bread

Pastry and crumbles

Dips

Garlic butter

Some cakes

Potato dauphonois ( sp)

Mayo

Curry pastes - great for the garlic/ginger and onion

Grating more that a handful of cheese or veg

Scones

Fakeaway kebab

Seriously I use it a lot to take the hard work out of cooking , I use it as an aid, same as I would anything else I have got

Koptforitagain · 13/04/2024 10:03

Coleslaw
Grated cheese
