What to offer when having afternoon tea later

My parents will be coming over on the bank holiday weekend at about 10.30 on the Friday morning. My issue is what to feed them at lunchtime as we're going out for an afternoon tea at 3 p.m. Don't want everyone to be hungry but at the same time don't want everyone to fill up too much. Any ideas gratefully received

Brunch at arrival?

Violettaa · 22/03/2024 21:17

Yep, I’d do bacon sandwiches on arrival.

I think the brunch idea is great, but if you are dealing with the food at 1pm brigade; Whether due to habit or blood sugar levels, then canapés can work. Small varied and tasty without spoiling the appetite for the afternoon tea

Brunch when they arrive is a good idea, bacon or sausage sandwiches, or perhaps Spanish omelette?

However, if they are more "traditional lunch" people, I'd do something like a hearty minestrone soup with garlic bread, or something light such as chicken Caesar salad or Croque Monsieur.

Brunch idea is a good one, especially as they will have travelled 90 minutes to get to us. Thanks everyone!

As much as I love a bacon buttie, I wouldn't want a sandwich midmorning then sandwiches again mid afternoon.

I'd maybe make a frittata and serve with a little bit of bacon.
