Foods that taste better the next day

What are yours?

Tonight I reheated some roast veg amd spinach and cottage cheese lasagne with some extra tomato sauce and grated cheese, and the result was a much more flavoursome and wonderfully textured lasagne than the one we had a couple of days ago.

Chippy chips reheated in a frying pan rather than the oven or microwave.

Pizza reheated in a frying pan with a bit of water, and covered to rehydrate the pizza and give a crispy base. I just can't enjoy cold pizza amd don't see the appeal in cold melted cheese.

Boiled rice turned into egg fried rice. In fact, when we have a curry or.mushroom stroganoff, I deliberately boil more rice than we need for the meal so that I can use the leftovers for egg fried rice.

Curries and bolognese!

VladimirVsVolodymyr · 20/03/2024 23:31

Indian takeaway hands down!

FloofyBird · 20/03/2024 23:35

Agree with bolognese, and chilli

mrsfollowill · 20/03/2024 23:37

Loads of stuff- any casserole type thing eg beef in red wine sauce, bolognese sauce- I always freeze 1/2 of a batch and the reheated stuff always tastes better than the original- chilli/curry the same and home made cottage pie- make the meat the day before to save time- top with fresh potato the next day.

Home made lasagna!

TheGhostOfKatesProlapse · 20/03/2024 23:39

I'm always too scared to reheat rice - it's the number 1 cause of gastro, isn't it?

Agree curries, bolognese and anything with ginger or lemongrass in.

crikesdostop · 20/03/2024 23:39

Chilli con carne. Not just the next day but after a few weeks in the freezer. Not traditional but I love it over chunky chips with a bit of cheese sprinkled on.

Home made soup , proper old school broth with quarters of potatoes in it , beef casserole . Anything that is made to begin with , with bones at the base .

WeirdPookah · 21/03/2024 10:36

Vegetarian chili is especially better with the time for flavours to develop.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 21/03/2024 11:45

I get Cantonese style chicken from the Chinese take way, serve it all up, mix together with the egg fried rice, eat what i want then save what's left for the next days lunch, tastes amazing reheated and never had an issue with reheating the rice.

idontlikealdi · 21/03/2024 11:53

Anything stew / casserole / curry / sauce based.

Fine to reheat rice you cooked yourself and know you have stored correctly or frozen when cool, I always have frozen rice in freezer. But I wouldn't reheat takeaway rice from somewhere else as you have no idea how long it has been cooked already or how stored.

xsquared · 21/03/2024 18:20

The only time I reheat rice is for turning cold boiled rice to egg fried rice. Doesn't work with freshly cooked rice, as there is too much steam for the grains to separate.

Definitely Lasagna.

There is a lovely Italian Deli in Glasgow that always has “Yesterdays Lasagna” on the menu. It is amazing 😊

LunaNorth · 22/03/2024 09:48

Can you explain the pizza reheating technique to me, please, OP?

OrigamiStar · 22/03/2024 09:49

Curries, lemon drizzle cake.

Cantonet · 22/03/2024 11:09

Ottolenghi's Confit tandoori chick peas.

Heat frying pan, put your pizza slice in and add a few drops of water so that it bubbles amd creates steam, cover for a few minutes to allow the steam to hydrate the topping and melt the cheese, and check after a couple of minutes for the water to have evaporated.

The bottom should be crispy, and the topping hot, and wonderfully chewy, not dry like oven or microwaved pizza.

Homemade chicken soup. It gets more chickeny in the fridge overnight.

LunaNorth · 22/03/2024 14:18

Thank you! I’ll try that.

BlueChampagne · 22/03/2024 14:22

Soup too!

Redlarge · 22/03/2024 14:34

Spag bol, chilli, scouse
