Cake assembly help

Sorry, was not sure where to put this thread, this was the only slightly related board I could find. I need some help with assembling a very large cake. I have 3 seperate layers of victoria sponge which are 12" round. Heavy and massive, whilst not a tiered cake do I need to use dowels to support it? Thanks in advance

3 layers should be fine. If it was going to be taller I’d recommend dowels in the bottom 3 layers then a cake board resting on those and final 3 layers on the board. I do this with my tall 6 layer cakes.
However, you could use dowels in 3 layers to support the them slipping sideways but it wouldn’t stop any squash on the bottom layers if you see what I mean.

Not sure what you are asking, normally you would reduce the size as you go up. I assume each cake is on a board and you will need to support them if you want separate tiers. If you are just making a huge cake then just separate with cream, Jam or whatever. I guess if the layers are very heavy your filling may squeeze out.

Thank you.. sorry, what I meant is I have 3 12’ Victoria sponges. Normally if this was an 8’ I would just layer up. But as these were so big I was wondering if I needed extra support or do I just fill with jam and buttercream in the same way I would an 8’.
