What would you serve with peking crispy duck to turn into a meal.

I'm actually doing Mary Berry's pekin chicken with pancakes and cucumber and onions, but feel it's normally a starter but I'm making it a main.so what do I serve with it, don't fancy spring rolls or prawn toast. Maybe rice?

Yuk sung

Stir fried greens with bacon, yung chow fried rice, sliced chicken with water chestnuts in oyster sauce.
That way you get all the flavours and textures but the duck remains the star.

I think yuk sung is an excellent idea.
That may be because crispy duck pancakes and yuk sung are two of my favourite starters ever and I'm a big fan of ordering 2 or 3 starters instead of a main course.
Otherwise, you could do a side dish of stir fried vegetables with, say, oyster sauce.
Or you could make a 3 course meal starting with soup (eg chicken and sweetcorn, egg flower) maybe with some noodles then the highlight: the duck.
Then finish with something light and fruity: lychees (even tinned are good); mango/passion fruit pannacotta/pineapple fritters.
I'd just be so happy that I was getting homemade duck pancakes that I wouldn't want anything else. I'd enjoy them then get a snack later if I got hungry.

I'd probably do noodles but then again I would happily eat noodles every day. A nice spicy vegetable noodle dish or a fresh noodle salad.

Or something like this this?

@Imtoooldforallthis sounds great! Also wondering if you’ve made this chicken before? Would you recommend it if so?

I've just made the potatoes, they are amazing, I will just reheat later in the oven. No I haven't made the chicken before but I will report back tomorrow.

The potatoes look gorgeous.
Definitely going to try those!

I've never heard of yuk sang, but its the exact same dish that I know of an san choi bow! Maybe look for recipes under either name OP.

I too was going to suggest a Chinese chicken sweetcorn soup as a starter or just a simple stir fry. Although they are Japanese, I love udon noodles instead of the Chinese egg noodles.

I did the method slightly differently. I parboiled and then roasted the potatoes with flour on, then I mistakenly prepared all the other ingredients in a bowl, so just cooked them all in a fring pan.i then mixed them with the potatoes, they are now on a tray waiting to reheat in oven later.

Thanks!
I'll have to try both methods - oh dear, two dishes of delicious potatoes, poor me Wink

I love Chinese soup, but it isn't a starter. In China we were offered soup at the end of the meal 'to fill up the cracks' which I think is a lovely phrase!
