Far out, this put me well off my breakfast this morning.

I'd no idea canned rabbit was a thing here in Australia back in the day. Or that people thought it was delicious.

My Dad used to make rabbit stew from rabbits he bought at the butcher. With carrots, onions, celery, potatoes etc. It was super tasty. It wasn't like this!

Long since vanished from dinner plates, Australia's canned rabbit was once popular fare as far away as London.

I saw 'bunny in a griddle' on a menu in Albania once. It doesn't bother me.

Rabbit is actually lovely when cooked properly. Can't say I've seen it for sale in a while though.

I made a Jamie Oliver rabbit dumpling stew years ago, mum wouldn’t let me make it for Easter as she said dads mum would hate rabbit for Easter , rabbit was common food growing up (Melbourne) I’d make it again but rabbits are expensive!!

My mum went to her deathbed stating that she didn’t cook Snowball - my bunny who used to guard me from her. (Loved to bite the backs of her knees.) Was the weirdest “chicken” I’d ever tasted.

When we pulled down a bit of "panelling" over a weirdly lazy diagonal pipe in our house, the boards where from crates of rabbit from Australia like this.

Ah thanks, that made me proper laugh 😂

In the UK rabbit was common on our tables until the 1970s. I remember going to Malta in the early 2000s and lots of restaurants served rabbit. I like it, but it can be tough if overcooked.

I remember Jamie Oliver & his gamekeeper (?) catching and killing rabbits on Jamie's farm. He had loads! The thing is with rabbits is there are usually plenty of them. I don't know why they are so expensive to buy these days.

When my mum was growing up (in Australia), chicken was very very expensive and of course rabbits were everywhere. They were the prime source of protein for a lot of people. Mum’s brothers used to trap and sell them around the neighbourhood. They’d all have mixomatosis now.

I've had rabbit stew but I didn't like the flavour.

I've had it stewed with prunes in Belgium and it was delicious. The bones can be a bit splintery though and sometimes you have to watch out for shot as with pheasant.
