Batch Cooking

I have never done this before as I usually cook from scratch every night but I am going away for a couple of weeks and would like to leave some home cooked food in the freezer.
Ideally I would like to make the recipes each night this week & have a portion for dinner & freeze another portion, so can you please give me your recipes for things that are relatively easy to cook in bulk & that will freeze well!
Please treat me like an idiot like I say I have no idea what I can & can't freeze & how best to reheat

Have a look at Taming Twins website. I made the chicken casserole. It was delicious

Will the person being left at home manage some food prep- or just defrost the meal and eat?

  • Bolognese sauce freezes well then the person cooks their own pasta and can add a salad
  • Lasagne. Once cooked, and cooled, cut into individual serving sizes and freeze.
  • Chicken or tuna pasta bake

You need to buy the Batch Lady books / Instagram. She is brilliant. Good recipes that work and she explains about storage, freezing and defrosting and how you can easily double up things when you are having a cooking session to enable you to stock the freezer for the future

I usually batch cook "building blocks" rather than full meals - eg bolognese sauce mash, dahl, stew chilli tomato sauce etc. Then defrost what I need so 1 tub bolognese sauce 1 tub mash, add some peas to the sauce top with mash grated cheese and breadcrumbs for a cottage pie and bake in oven etc. Buy a pizza base and defrost some tomato sauce and top with what ever is in the fridge for pizza.

Another vote for taming twins! She has a thing on the website you can 2 or 3 x a recipe and loads are fuss free bung in the slow cooker. I have about 10/11 meals on rotation with things like korma/chilli/chicken satay/bolognaise/pork carnitas/fish pie/dahl with a veggie chilli/chicken chasseur that aren't taming twins
