whole chicken in slow cooker ?

Change of plans with work today means that no one will be home until quite late. I have a whole chicken in the fridge that's been marinading 24 hours. I would normally roast it.

Have never cooked a whole chicken in a slow cooker before but was thinking 8 hours on high? Do I need to raise it up on foil balls or add any water in or can I just Chuck it in as is?

Or, if you want poached chicken, put into the slow cooker with a chopped carrot and onion on the bottom, and half fill with water.
Cook on high for 8 hours.

Incredibly soft and juicy.

You also get a pan of chicken stock, once strained.

No water. There's enough water injected into supermarket meat to make it look plump as it is.
All that water will come out in a slow cooker, and won't evaporate off, hence the skin not crisping up. U

Thank you, it's already skinned and has been marinating in natural yoghurt and herbs/spices. So there is liquid as such I guess.

Just hope it comes out ok.

No water at all, just Chuck it in but on low.

Bloody lovely!! Enjoy.

I always put mine in the slow cooker, comes out beautifully succulent and makes a wonderful stock if you add a cup of water at the beginning.

I just put it in as it is, no water because juices will come out of the chicken anyway whilst it’s cooking

Just thought I'd update to say that although the chicken was really soft and tender it was a nightmare to get out of the slow cooker. The whole thing literally fell off the carcass as I tried to get it out and I had to tip the pot into a collander so it didn't look the best but it tasted good.
