Gold food colouring for icing

I want to make a drip cake with gold icing for the drip part. What brand of food colouring is best for a really good strong colour please?

I normally use Wiltons pastes but can't see a proper gold in their range. Is Sugarflair any good?

I had an edible gold spray. I don't know if that would be any good. I can't remember the brand, but I can check tomorrow if you want

I think I'd add edible gold lustre to white icing, you might need a fair bit for a really strong colour, but it should work, and will make the icing beautifully sparkly too!

Thank you! That could definitely work.

you won't get a metallic finish by adding food colouring to the drip icing itself. You would be best off colouring the icing in egg yellow and then painting it with a gold food paint. Although I prefer to mix my own paint with lustre dust and dipping solution or confectioners glaze there are several different brands out there that sell ready mixed paint.

You will just be wasting lustre dust mixing it directly into the icing, it won't go gold. There are gold drips available to buy or there are some recipes online that show mixing dust with liquid to get a drip but you need a lot and I really think some of those recipes come from other places that don't have same rules re edible/non edible food colours! Most commonly used way is to do drip yellow and then paint when dry with gold colour or dust mixed with liquid.

Thank you both. This is really useful intel. I may have a rethink as it sounds like I could easily mess it up.
