Sugar???

IS granulated the same as caster ( roughly) sugar , only recipe says one of them and ive only got the stuff you put in tea !!! Also can you use hot chocolate powder instead of cocoa ?? (making chocolate easter egg nesty thingys ) Thankyou .

Hot choc powder is cocoa with sugar already added, so just don't add sugar to the recipe (or add less). As for caster sugar, I never have it in so always use granulated or even brown sugar. If you're making a butter cream or something though, best to go for caster or icing otherwise you'll feel the grains.

Well the cocoa is going in the cake mix, And then to make the icing !!! ( sugar overload so will leave out some sugar now ) Thanks for that.

granulated is the same as castor but castor is more finely ground so the granulated(bog standard sugar)may be a bit gritty.hot chocolate powder also has sugar and milk in it already so use double and halve the sugar.

posted my message before I saw the previous one so sorry for the duplicate info.In the icing I would just use the chocolate powder and no sugar at all.
