Ds is barely eating

Ds has barely eaten for a week. Half a cheese sandwich here and there, a bit of broccoli pesto chicken pasta, but literally a spoon or two, then he wants to get down and give up. He will sniff a veggie crisp or two (homemmade, dont worry, not salted!), but is just not interested. Ive no idea what to do. He is drinking loads, doesnt have a sicky yummy, but I can see he is turning into a bit of a skinny bones.

He has never been a great eater. He does love a cheese sandwich but doesnt take great pleasure in food, not unless its choc icecream.

He is just two.

Can I make broccoli icecream? Chicken jelly? Joke...actually...maybe it could work..

Let's have a think

Cut down on milk?

Involve him in preparing the food - buttering hot cross buns/toast/scones, slicing fruit like banana, is he too young to grate cheese?

Also, do you hover over him at the table? Seem to remember something about not hovering over them when they eat, rather sit and eat with the child.

Ummm have you tried having friends over for lunch, mine always ate more with a chum sitting opposite.

HTH

He is only drinking a cup in the morning and one at night.

I tried getting him to help me yesterday and let him pick what he wanted to eat, and he ended up with jam and cheesesandwiches, some boiled carrots and a potato. Yuck., Not my usual food. I really am quite a reasonable cook. He ate the lot. Jam and cheese! Yuck. But I opened the fridge and told him it was his choice...so...

Thankyou, getting him involed has helped, just got to try and get hiim back on his normal food!

No probs, keep posting for more help as and when you want a bit of support

Mind you, you all have been through the mill this last week. Haven't you, this could be his way of coping(or not)with things.

Thanks, do you think it is a reaction? I did wonder, but thought perhaps he was just doing a normal toddler thing.

Im going to try and be a bit more animated and offer to help him spoon it in. He might want to be babied a bit.

Im not expecting him to be unscathed by all of this....I feel utterly useless.

All I can say is just be patient with him, and hopefully he will come through it!

I love ds so very much. He is a gorgeous sweet, kind, gentle boy. I do hope I can get him through this and help him to feel safe again and hopefully get his appetite back.

Im planning on making homemade hamburgers, some in the oven hommade potato wedges, and sweetcorn for dinner tomorrow, with some smoothies. I know he will eat it and be happy. I dont like giving junk, but I guess if I make it myself it is less junk and more trying to awaken his appetite again. Dd will think Ive gone insane. For lunch, Ill let him choose, as long as he is eating something and putting a bit of weight back on (his trousers are starting to fall down) then Ill be happy. He is on the 75th centiile for height and the 50th ish for weight, so it is not great, but not awful I suppose. Im going to take him to the docs asap to put my midn at rest.
