Made a resolution to bake something that I’ve never / rarely made each month this year.
sticky toffee pudding is first as I’ve never made one.
want to perfect a carrot cake as not made one for years.

considering treacle tart / Madeira cake / chocolate fudge cake. Things I’ve made but couldn’t say I have the fail proof recipes for.

any other suggestions for your family favourites?
we’re a mixed bunch, dc3 is dairy intolerant, dc1 doesn’t like chocolate, me and dd don’t like anything with fruit in 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 so that’s why I’ve probably stuck with a very limited repertoire!
so I’d like to try things and accept not everybody will eat it each month.
TIA.

a firm favourite in our house is a vegan chocolate and banana cake, more like a banana bread but round like a cake and full of dark chocolate chunks! My Youngest is dairy intolerant so I understand how hard it is to bake!

Ooh banana bread! Great shout thanks.

Flapjacks are great - easy to make and keep for a while. To make it more interesting, I flavour them by adding lemon or chopped apple chunks, choc chips, seeds, raspberries ... lots of possibilities.

Brownies, blondies and cookies are also another favourite.

Thanks. I do brownies and flap jacks but never feel like I’ve got the perfect flapjack. I prefer it a bit chewy whereas it often comes out crumbly.

Three ingredient scones. I'm afraid to make them as I can scoff them one after the other fresh from the oven.

Yes to banana bread, adding crushed walnuts and a pinch of cinnamon is a great addition.

Going off the trail here, but if I'm not in the mood for baking I make a Tiramisu. Yummy.

Tana Ramseys lemon drizzle is the best cake in the world. Always turns out perfect.

Also all in one school cake, weigh 3 eggs in their shells then use the same amount of flour, sugar and butter. Mix them all together with some vanilla and bake in a square tin if you have one. When cooled cover in white icing and hundreds and thousands.

Scones? Ooh or golden syrup loaf cake is easy and very delicious.

I love the Sarah's slice website for recipes. She has some great classics and some with a twist, e.g. sticky toffee flapjacks.

You can swap butter out for baking margarine (stork baking block) in most recipes if you need to be dairy free, just double check the ingredients as not all brands are dairy free.

Or combine the two for golden syrup scones 🤤

I’ve made Nigella’s sticky gingerbread this week. The recipe includes black treacle, it is dark and delicious and keeps for yonks.

Ooh Mary berry does a lovely one with loads of apples! Can't remember the name though...
