Snack/pudding for DS8 who won't eat fruit

It's a texture thing as he doesn't like the skin.

Occasionally he will have a very thinly sliced peeled apple. Tinned peaches once in a blue moon. He likes raisins. He does like a smoothie so I buy those but it can't have any 'bits in' so no strawberries etc whizzed up at home.

The only vegetables he'll eat are carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and baby sweetcorn so the only cold veg option for snacks is cut up carrots. No cucumber, tomatoes, peppers etc because of the skin.

He'll eat any veg whizzed into a tomato sauce on pasta.

Any suggestions for snacks and puddings?

Cheese and crackers
Peanut butter on rice cakes
Boiled egg
Yoghurt (and fruit puree)

What about fruit like melon, banana & pineapple that don't have the skin?
You can peel cucumber, but it is a faff!

NoCloudsAllowed · 24/01/2024 13:38

Depending on how much faff you want, cucumber skin can be peeled easily. Tomatoes - score lightly with a knife, put whole in boiling water for a minute, skins slip off but flesh is pretty much still raw. Strawberries you can whizz then put through a sieve to get seeds out.

Have you tried crispy things like baked chick peas, kale chips?

There's a limit to how far I'd go really, he's going to have to learn to eat them at some point.

Boiled eggs. Cold meat and cheese. Left overs from meals.

Don't push fruit for the sake of it, it is just sugar.

Pudding wise:
greek yoghurt with honey
maybe a sorbet type thing made from fruit?
jelly
home made ice lolly from the smoothie

snacks
cheese
malt loaf
breadsticks
toast
eggs

Would he eat stewed fruit? I do stewed apple and sultana, pears and chocolate sauce, plums, and a fruit compote with strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. You can keep it in the fridge to heat up next day too. I also do baked pineapple in the oven, with a bit of brown sugar to caramelise and it's lovely

My children still eat the Heinz Custard pots, meant as baby food, but unbox it and put in the cupboard he wouldn't know!

He will occasionally eat melon but banana and pineapple are a hard no. He used to eat bananas but won't eat anything now if he can smell them in it.

It's more the alternatives for pudding or snacks so some great ideas here. Thanks :)

Cereal bars, petit filous, yoghurt coated raisins, malt loaf, toasted fruit bread/hot cross buns, crumpets,

Will he eat dried fruit things like School Bars (not sure if you can still buy them) or YoYos? Chewy rather than fibrous things I'm thinking.
