Lunches to improve blood pressure

DH is trying to lower his high blood pressure through diet and exercise.

The tread mill is ordered and I make healthy dinners.

He's got into bad habits at lunchtime grabbing a huge white tuna mayonnaise baguette.

He wants to avoid bread.....this morning I made a salad of brown rice, chicken, avocado, rocket and radishes.

Any ideas?

Apart from DH making his own so he realises its is his responsibility to improve his health?

We aim for a wide variety of dahl's and soups with a good range of vegetables and pulses in then, often spiced.

We aim for pulses to make them filling because otherwise I will reach for the bread.

Best thing you can do for blood pressure is to not drink or smoke, and to exercise regularly. Not on a treadmill (he will be bored to tears after 20 minutes), but get out and do something he enjoys. What does he like doing? Swimming, playing football, rambling, Pokemon Go, go walk for an hour at lunchtime, whatever it might take to get moving. Cut out salt and processed foods and eat lots of fruit and veg.

But yes, he needs to make his own food. He's a grown up. He can do it. Otherwise, it becomes something he is 'forced' to do - so he'll just sneak snacks from the petrol station when you aren't watching. Things like roast chicken leg or baked fish with noodles/brown rice/green veg/salad plus a fruit salad for pudding, tuna is fine in moderation (not every day as it's salty) but in a wrap with lots of salad veg, frittata with salad, etc. Think protein and veg, but it has to be enjoyable because no one want to eat cardboard for lunch every day forever, if he wants it to be sustainable.

The 'diet' bit for blood pressure basically means lose weight.

He needs to think of his calorie count over the whole day. His tuna mayonnaise sandwich isn't necessarily bad unless he ends up hungry at 3 pm and snacking on crisps and biscuits.

Thanks for all the helpful tips!

His sport is golf so not much cardio going on there. He used to play a lot of tennis but has back problems and was advised impact sport not the best for him.
He won't get bored on the treadmill...

He doesn't smoke but has a few beers at the weekend.

His biggest struggle is snacking at night time when we're watching tv.
Just got some sugar snap peas for this!

He needs to lose between half a stone and a stone so not massively overweight.

Those recipes look delicious, thanks Forgottenmyphone.

If he has a bigger healthy dinner, maybe just an hour later, he’ll be less likely to snack in the evening
