Teenager - small meal after school options

DS is 13, tall, active etc. He also has ADHD and is on meds that suppress his appetite during the day. Overall, it's not a huge issue as he has a good breakfast, and he eats a good dinner with lots of variety etc (thank goodness he's not a fussy eater at all).

But he does tend to come home from school and his appetite kicks in around 4pm as the meds start to wear off. Too early for dinner but I appreciate he needs more than a snack if he hasn't eaten since 8am. Something more substantial, healthy etc would be good. I'm working on things I can mostly prepare ahead for him when I'm making my own lunch, and I've started keeping things like fresh ravioli for him to cook or reheated leftovers.

But I'd like him to start experimenting and trying things he prepares himself, perhapss in the airfryer. eg I realised this week that those crumbed chicken steaks or chunky fish fingers can be done by him in the airfryer in 10 minutes and then eaten like a burger or in a wrap or something. Any other ideas he could try? I keep hearing that teens love the air fryer so now I need to get him into it!

Two slices of bread, butter one side of each, something nutritious in between.
If he’s 13 you are over thinking this, he just needs something to keep him going until dinner.

Hummus was bought in bulk when mine were this age!

Toast or cereal in this house after school. They can top up from the fruit bowl and then dinner is always around 6.30ish

Have a look at Iceland, they have lots of snack food and they have started putting air fryer instructions on their own brand food. Some I had and liked.

Gyoza are simple and come in various flavours.
Spring rolls.
Satay chicken.
Southern fried chicken (in various varieties).
Mozzarella sticks.
Chicken kiev.
Garlic and cheese bites.
Quiche.
Lamb koftas.

For the veg intake what bout soup? Either make and freeze in pots or make in a slow cooker so it is ready when he gets home.

D you have a rice cooker? They are not just for rice but you could do something like rice with veg and coconut milk and have it ready for him to just flip the switch (you could leave the bowl in fridge when it gets warmer).

Yes my two love it. The really full on Sabra one.

We all love a dip. Even as toddlers they would eat raw veg as long as it had a dip!

mushroom omelette (with or without cheese) made very thinly in a big pan, then put a wrap on the top and roll the whole thing up. DD went through a phase of these ( flat egg wraps were on instagram for a while apparently as a high protein low fat choice.).
