I've googled this, but for some reason can't find an answer. Does anyone know?
Also, feta?

I just fear that some of the messaging around UPFs becomes a bit cult like and can end up with people becoming disordered in their eating because they - mistakenly cut out food they should be eating because they think it's "bad".

This is my concern about the UPF bandwagon as well. It seems designed to appeal to the same ‘worried well’ contingent as the whole clean eating thing a decade ago.

Life is not black and white, and food choices do not divide neatly into good and bad food. It does no one any favours to pretend that they do.

Op: I’ve listened to the Chris Van Tullek book and it’s got to be said the definition of ultra processed vs processes isn’t totally clear! The definition I find most useful is whether any ingredients on the food list is somethin I wouldn’t and wouldn’t expect to have in my kitchen - or a home kitchen (eg I might not personally have, say, rice wine, but I know it’s a standard ingredient) It’s not an absolute but it’s a useful rule of thumb. I must say, cheeses aren’t something I’d actually thought about and checked ingredients list on though so I get totally why you’d ask/wonder. [if you’ve not read the book and podcast but are excellent btw :-)

Thanks @Ropeonasoap but no need to be snippy.

Not snippy. Cheese is not ultra processed. anything with one ingredient is not ultra processed. It's one of the basic rules.

Cheese milk butter yogurt (ones made just with milk) fish meat vegetables - not ultra processed

@Sodndashitall thanks that's interesting. Is the scoring of each food personalised? So there isn't a 'general' scoring that could be usefully shared with others?

So I think there are some foods that are always good but yes the scores are personalised. The example they use is a banana, these are OK for me as I process sugars well but other people theyd be lower and more of a treat item or something to have combined with other foods

Thanks @Sodndashitall

No neither are Upf.
its processed just like cheddar or Stilton.

my rule of thumb is "can it be made in a domestic setting from scratch." If the answer is no it's Upf.
halloumi and feta are centuries old and ver much not UPF
