What is the normal texture of minced chicken?

Sorry for the silly question Blush, but just bought minced chicken for the first time ever. I was preparing it for the freezer, but when I touched it, it felt very different from any other minced meat I’ve ever bought (very very wet!), so I was just wondering if anyone can describe to me what the normal texture is? As I’m wondering if it might be a bit off. Thank you Smile

It's not as coarse and more mushy I find as it's not as tough as beef/lamb or pork.

Mushy is normal, you can push a finger through raw chicken breast meat after all.

Nasty, gelatinous.

Sludge

You've seen the pink slime McDonald's nuggets video right?

Fordian · 16/01/2024 22:49

Under no circumstances does chicken need to be minced.

I’m regretting buying it now, but sounded like a good idea when I was at the supermarket…

Thanks everyone, everyone’s descriptions sound accurate - particularly “sludge”, which is what made me think it might be off. I shall not be purchasing it ever again!

I'm glad it's now more widely available, mincing at home is a pain.
It's great for meatballs & burgers, lower in both calories & fat than red meats.

I was surprised too as I was expecting a more pork mince type texture. Not sure if turkey mince is the same but that seems to be more commonly available.

It can be very wet so that’s normal. It’s good in burgers and meatballs. This is a good recipe for it

Thanks again, everyone - now I know it all seems ok, let’s see if the family likes it! I’m not normally squeamish, but I was a bit surprised by the texture, hopefully the taste will make up for it Grin

Its completely fine. The texture is softer just like the texture of cooked chicken is softer than the texture of cooked beef. Its a much much healthier option and a significantly more environmentally friendly choice.
