Does anyone have one? I'm following the instructions and I'm finding it needs at least double to three times the time stated and a lot more water. I was hoping it would be a nice quick help with dinner.

Anyone had success with one?

I have one and really don't much like it.
Ds has had some success but it isn't nearly as good as I had hoped.

I use mine all the time but I agree the instructions are slightly off. I have a 1000w microwave and I get the best results using a splash more water (just slightly over the measurement line) and adding an extra minute to the time. I always rinse the rice too.

What rice do you typically use?

I have one and when I follow the timings as per the instruction booklet, the rice is undercooked. My microwave is 1100w.

The reviews were/are good, but I'm not impressed with it.

Colinswheels · 04/01/2024 13:26

I usually use basmati but use the same method with normal white rice too. I haven't tried brown rice in it.

I have a microwave rice cooker (not the Joseph Joseph one) and we love it. We’ve had a couple, and we always get perfect rice.

Use 2x water to white basmati rice. Add a little more for brown rice (maybe an extra half a cup). For two scoops of rice, I usually microwave for 11 mins then rest the rice for 5 mins to absorb the rest of the water.

I am on my 2nd one of these. First was Lakeland and current is sistema.
from 20 years of experience. Rinse the rice properly.
Put BOILING water in. Cook for 11 minutes. Ideally let it sit for a few minutes before serving.

I have a cheap microwave rice cooker that I use all the time. Boiling water and 9 minutes for basmati. I don’t measure the water accurately just cover the rice by about 2cm and drain off the excess. Rice is best if you can leave it to stand a while.

BriocheForBreakfast · 04/01/2024 13:35

I would cook rice in it the same way I used to with my Tupperware pot having first washed the rice. For basmati my ratio is 1 cup of rice to 1.5 cups of cold water. Jasmine rice is 1 cup to almost 2 cups of water. Then I cook it on the high setting for 10 minutes then rest for at least 5 minutes but I've let it sit around for 15 and it's been fine. I then fork the rice and serve.

I don't know what the instructions are for mine any more- on a 1000w microwave for 2 people or so, I add water to about 1 knuckle above the rice (rinse thoroughly first) then microwave 12 mins, leave lid on for another 5 mins. It's inexact but has never let me down.

We use the systema one too.

I agree with boiling water - I’ve taken to weighing my rice then putting double the weight volume of boiling water in.

Full power for 10 minutes, and stand for a minimum of 5 minutes, ideally 10.

Marmite27 · 04/01/2024 13:38

70g of rice PP.

When cooking for DH, me and 2 primary kids I do 200g rice and 400g boiling water.

Soozikinzii · 04/01/2024 13:41

I use mine all the time cover Basmati rice over 2 cm with boiling water cook for 11 mins . Perfect every time.

MrsMontyD · 04/01/2024 13:45

Sounds like boiling water is the key, I'll try it tonight, thanks.

I've got the JJ one & love it. I soak basmati for 30 minutes, using several changes of water.
I find it easiest to weigh both rice & water in the plastic pot - no bending down or holding pot up to the light.
Both weights INCLUDE the weight of the pot.
130 g of dry rice , then 213 g of COLD water after rice has soaked.. Add salt etc, then 10 minutes, stirring midway.
Perfect every time.
