Dairy free and halal options kids party

Hi all

It’s our daughter’s 5th birthday party shortly. We have various allergies to work around, the main ones being dairy, sesame and peanut. One child also only eats halal.

I’m making up individual party lunch boxes, which I’m planning to put sandwiches in along with other bits. Any ideas on sandwich fillings which would suit everyone? I’d rather all the boxes contain the same so as not to have the stress of specific allergy friendly ones. I can only come up with jam, and tuna/mayo. I could do dairy free cheese but conscious that the dairy eating children might not like it.

Thanks

Egg mayo (is it a cows milk allergy or vegan?)

Quorn ham

Tuna mayo and sweet corn

Thanks - egg mayo is a good option. They are all cows milk allergies, rather than vegan

Egg

Hummous and carrot

Do they have to have a sandwich? Would something like vegan sausage rolls or falafel be easier?

I've known many 5 year olds at various parties who wouldn't eat tuna or egg mayo. When catering for a mass of 5 year olds the blander the better.

I would go with ham sandwiches and one box containing some kind of halal meat sandwich.

I'd also double check with the parents of the kids with allergies ahead of time, to make sure you're not wasting your time.

Ds3 has two friends with fairly severe allergies and neither parent allows them to eat any food at parties (whether prepared in someone's home or at a soft play or whatever) because the risk of cross contamination is too high - they both bring their own lunchboxes to any party.

Don't serve houmous if you have kids with a sesame allergy! Personally I would ask the parent of the nut allergy kid to provide their own food as it's easy to make a mistake and it could be fatal.

Jam would be a safe option? Definitely don't serve dairy free cheese, it's horrible!

Quorn do chicken slices that are decent. There's also a range called squeaky bean who do great vegan sandwich meats. I'd say the Quorn chicken slices would go down better with 5yos though. Also, all flora butters are now vegan so dairy free.

Thanks Seattle - they are all happy for me to make up lunch boxes.

Agree re the dairy free cheese! Our daughter is dairy free and I can’t stand the smell of the cheese

Our dc had cheese slices or jam at parties in our area. Maybe not the healthiest but they liked them.
