In 1kg mince, a generous glass of red wine and an Oxo cube?

Just wondering...

diplodocus · 16/03/2008 15:19

err, no.

schneebly · 16/03/2008 15:20

I wouldn't worry too much about the wine as the alcohol will burn off but not sure about ingredients of oxo...

ladytophamhatt · 16/03/2008 15:20

th ewine wouldn'tr bother me as much as the oxo cube tbh.

ladytophamhatt · 16/03/2008 15:21

Oxo = MSG central

Ceolas · 16/03/2008 15:22

Seems you're right LTH

Wikipedia:

I would - 1kg of mince is quite a lot. The amount of oxo in a baby sized portion would be minimal. But at the end of day, you do what you're comfortable with.

windygalestoday · 16/03/2008 15:24

i think i would too

PerkinWarbeck · 16/03/2008 15:25

yes.
i am aware of all the evils in an oxo, but i make it with one cube to about 8 adult portions. i'd avoid other salty foods that day, though.

llareggub · 16/03/2008 15:28

I would never put an OXO cube in a spag bol anyway...

TheAntiFlounce · 16/03/2008 15:32

YES. ABSOLUTELY I WOULD

mylovelymonster · 16/03/2008 15:33

No. Never. Not even maybe.

ladytophamhatt · 16/03/2008 15:35

I was just coming back to say the same....

tinned tomatos
passata (one without salt, can't remeber the name of teh brand now, black carton with red writing)
garlic clove
onion
mushrooms
courgette
mince
chopped basil

Sometimes I put in a chopped up rasher of bacon.

ladytophamhatt · 16/03/2008 15:36

I mean say the same about never using oxo in sdpag bol

Twiglett · 16/03/2008 15:37

yes

but then I also put salt in my potatoes

Twiglett · 16/03/2008 15:38

I've never used oxo in spag bol nor wine though .. splash of worcestershire sauce sometimes

3NAB · 16/03/2008 15:38

No

Indith · 16/03/2008 15:39

Better without the stock cube If you like your cubes though try the kallo ones, they don't have msg and they do a lovely no added salt one

ladytophamhatt · 16/03/2008 15:39

bloody hell twig, salt in potatoes??

you sure you should be admitting that here?

pgrin]

Ceolas · 16/03/2008 15:43

Lol @ the salt. We have been invted to lunch with a lovely relative. She assured me she wouldn't salt the pasta!

Now while I don't think it'll kill her I wasn't desperate on the oxo. Don't want to cause offence though

OP posts:
mylovelymonster · 16/03/2008 15:43

Never have oxo in the house, or anything with MSG. Vile and unnecessary.
I like a bay leaf as well, and I cook it slowly in a casserole to make sure beef is tender.

Personally, I'd puree it before adding to well cooked (soft) pasta for little one - and at six months is your LO up to dealing with pasta? Mine was just starting on simple purees at 6 months, but I know they're all different.

Scattybird · 16/03/2008 15:43

Yes.

Ceolas · 16/03/2008 15:44

Well she doesn't actually eat anything as far as I've noticed. Licks it and squashes it. Anything on a spoon is spat in my face!

OP posts:
Twiglett · 16/03/2008 15:45

I spent years not putting salt in potatoes and then thought to myself I wonder how differently they'll taste with a little in the water .. and I have to say the change in taste is phenomenal

I don't add salt to any dish, nor any other vegetables ... but I really really think that potatoes need it

oxocube · 16/03/2008 15:45

HmmHmmHmmGrin

Twiglett · 16/03/2008 15:46

I dont salt pasta either
