No, they should be fine ! I usually use shortcrust pastry for jam tarts but there's no reason you can't use puff .... there'll be a bit like those fancy & expensive French biscuits you can buy.

SenoraPostrophe · 16/03/2008 15:13

they will be delicious.

Twiglett · 16/03/2008 15:15

I'd sprinkle brown sugar all over them first then do the jam

VanillaPumpkin · 16/03/2008 15:15

Or do a Nigella and get some chocolate, put it in the middle and roll it up into a croissant.

roll it and cut into squares. Cut from (nearly)the centtre to each corner, and twist each half-point towards the right and press down. You end up with a danish-pastry type shape (looks a bit like a childs wind-mill) put a blob of jam/lemon curd in the centre and bake.

Or do what I am doing this sunday-dinner, roll it out into a oblong, sprinlke sugar over. Roll one edge to the middle, then the other edge to meet it in the middle. Cut into slices and bake. Parmiers, i think they are.

BecauseImWoeufIt · 16/03/2008 15:47

Or for a savoury alternative sprinkle with grated parmesan?

nkf · 16/03/2008 15:50

You can make a fabulous cheese and onion tart. Cook the onions in butter, mix with cream cheese, spread over and bake.

The chocolate recipe? How does that work? A row of squares inside a square of puff pasty. Or do you mean nutella spread and rolled?

I would send DH out for a bag of boiled sweets, cut out donut style sprinkle brown sugar over AND put a sweet in the middle. You will have puffy puffs with stained glass in the middle.

My dd's love puff pastry with marmite and grated cheese.

Oblong of puff pastry spread with marmite then grated cheese. roll it so it looks like a swiss roll then slice and bake in the oven. (I then keep in the freezer for quick meal when I can't be bothered to cook)

Nigella says:
Pre-heat oven to 220 / gas 7
Cut 375g packet pastry into 6 squares
Cut into two triangles (will seem small)
Place with point away from you. Break off small peices of chocolate (approx 1 cm) to place on tiragles 2 cm up from wide end.
Roll towards the point. Seal and bend slightly to curl into crescent.
Paint with egg.
Bake for 15 mins....

VanillaPumpkin · 16/03/2008 17:33

pieces and triangles off course....
Oh and 100g dark choc bar

JodieG1 · 16/03/2008 17:39

These sound lovely

EllieG · 16/03/2008 17:50

I sometimes roll out, put on cinnamon and sugar, roll into sausage and cut into little rounds to make little biscuit things.

Another savoury one, I can't remember where from, but it's lish :

squares, circles, torn bits, whatever of puff pastry, a couple of fresh spinach leaves, top with some crumbled feta, pine nuts & a drizzle of olive oil, yum hot or cold, very good buffet-fodder.
