What to serve at 50th House Party

Having a 50th party at the house and I need ideas about what to serve people to eat.

The ideal food would be something that could be batch cooked and left out for folks to help themselves to, with a veggie option.

There will be 30/40 ish people...it's going to be intimate a squash Grin

I don't want to spend all evening playing caterer.

There will be no formal sitting down and it's likely to get quite loud! Any ideas wise mum netters?

A 40th I went to recently did chicken gyros.
Her DH is Greek and it was the best gyros I've ever had in the UK
But anyway it was kept warm and then a help yourself to pitta, tzatziki, salad etc, bowls of olives
Veggie option was grilled veggies I think.

It went down very well and everybody loved the food.

Over Christmas I had friends over and cooked a huge porchetta that I got from the local butcher. Left it on a big board with loads of fresh white rolls and apple sauce and everyone said how delicious it was!

Another vote for sausages. Aussie DH calls this a Sausage Sizzle and our friends love it! Sausages/veggie sausages (bonus if they’re on wooden sticks), bread rolls and sauces. We keep it really simple and it goes down a treat….especially on a boozy night. We haven’t tried keeping them warm in a slow cooker as PP suggests but will definitely be doing this in future.

It’s easy if the party is in a cooler month. I’ve done it in December for similar amount of people. I had very large meat and potato pies and cheese and onion pies. Cut into serving portions and leave on the side for people to help themselves with beetroot, pickles, red cabbage crusty bread etc. People loved them and doesn’t everyone love a comforting homemade pie! I had a catering company make them to order and delivered them piping hot around 9.30pm. People were queuing up for them and they were definitely a hit,

We always do a large lasagna, veggie chillie, with rice and garlic bread. Then a big green salad with dips, veg sticks, crisps and breadsticks. All can be prepared in advance and just put on the table at the right time. Have a great night!

I'd do loads of jacket potatoes and put bowls of filling, eg baked beans, grated cheese, tuna mayo and let people do their own toppings plus several quiches, mini pork pies/pasties and sausages rolls cooked from frozen, huge bowls of salad, coleslaw, rice salad, cold meat like ham, pickled onions, pots of pringles, crisps, carrot sticks, cucumber sticks and humus.
