Is Bishops Finger good for a beef and ale stew?

I didn't know what to get! The recipe I was looking at said to get a full-bodied ale but I don't really know what that means. I should have sent DP as he knows more about ale than I do but it is what it is. I went on the description on the tickets in Sainsburys. Will it be ok? What should I have got if not?

I've never tasted it but looking at the description I'd say it would be spot on.

Yes- it’s a nice beer and would be good for a pie.

It is more important to balance the flavours. I find getting that the hardest for beef/ale stews as they can be quite bitter even if you follow the recipe.

Also never tried it and by the descriptions it sounds very hoppy (so lots of fruitiness and also rather bitter) and I'm not sure how that would work out in cooking. Not familiar with this specific recipe but with rich stews or chilis my normal go-to would be a Guiness-type dark beer.

Thanks for your replies. Any suggestions other than Guinness gratefully received!
