Sugar is sugar, no matter if it’s maple syrup, honey or dates tbh but unprocessed is better than white refined.

Recipe for healthy chocolate and banana cake. Around 160 calories.

300g mashed bananas
add 30g melted butter
& a splash of vanilla extract
then add
125g self raising flour
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
50g cocoa powder
Splash of milk
bash 25g dark chocolate into bits (Aldi little moser Roth bars are 25g) and stir half into the cake batter.

Pour into a square tin lined with baking paper and sprinkle the remaining chocolate on top.

Bake at 160 in a fan oven for 20 mins. Lift out of tin using the baking paper & cool on wire rack. Makes 9 big square portions of cake. Freezes well in individual portions.

I do snack on deglet nour dates, just 4/5 with a small drizzle of pip & nut almond butter and a sprinkle of coarse ground sea salt. Healthy but around 150 calories.

It sort of depends on your situation. Healthy snacks for 20-something me who hiked most weekends and played a different sport every evening looked very different to snacks now I’m a mum to small kids, am likely to hit menopause soon and walking the dog is basically it for exercise.

That said hard boiled eggs and chopped up vegetable crudités are great to keep in the fridge to prevent mindless grazing

My go to is fat free yogurt and defrosted frozen berries.

Having all foods, including treats, in moderation is healthy. I would much rather have a proper decadent chocolatey fudgey brownie once a week, than those naff low sugar beetroot brownies everyday.

Depends what you mean by tasting good.

I could sit and eat plain rice cakes, oatcakes or ryvita till they’re coming out of my ears. Same with plain 5% Greek yoghurt. I’m partial to raw carrots dipped in tomato sauce with chilli flakes stirred in.
I also like fruit.
Im not saying I never haves cakes, biscuits or crisps but I actively like snacking on things that aren’t just combinations of sugar, fat and refined carbs.
