Rice storage

I’m thinking of saving by buying an enormous bag (more like a sack) of rice - I’m a bit perplexed about storage though. People who buy these bags / sacks of rice, how do you tend to store them? Do you store in the bag, top clipped up? Do you put in a bucket or bin of some sort?
Do you maybe store bag in freezer & take rice out say 1kg at a time?
I have had bad experiences with flour storage & mites so want to avoid same with rice! (I now store big flour bags in freezer.)
thank you!

I buy the 5 kilo sacks of Tilda rice as I love rice and eat a lot of it! I fill up a plastic storage tub with about 1kg at a time and the bag just lives in the corner of the kitchen. It has a little plastic zip thing to reseal it between uses. You’ve just reminded me, I decanted the last of the bag this week and need to buy another.

Our big one sits inside a thing like this

I’m wary of weevils!

And then I decant into about a 1l tin.

I decant rice into a plastic lidded box which holds about 3kg.

With flour, I think you can just freeze when you first buy it. I generally freeze for about 48 hours, then take out and keep in a sealed box or bag. I would think this would also apply to rice, as the purpose is to kill any live pests or eggs.

I've never frozen raw rice, but after having an infested 10kg sack, do now tend to buy in clear bags so I can see if infested.

I'm a complete domestic slattern. Ours is just stored in the sack in the pantry when opened, just take out what we need for each meal. Never had any problems.

I'm very wary of having too much rice around after the weevils experience.

Thanks very much - that’s really helpful!
