she has packed lunch at school so looking for some ideas that I can keep in a flask/warm food.

so far I have pasta. She doesn’t like soup or stir fry. But open to suggestions

Sitting in the car right now between clubs…tonight it was indeed pasta, but cold. They have school dinners for the hot food reason!

Generally I fling some leftovers in a tub from a previous dinner, but I could if I was a nicer parent warm them and use a flask. Cut-up sausage and mash and peas?
Rice and curry?

Also a stash of biscuits and fruit for the way home after sports clubs. I always forget this bit.

Jacket potatoes work ok. The only problem is cutting the skin so we pre chop the potato before putting in the flask. Top with beans and cheese or chilli.
Sausage casserole also works.

an absolute favourite of mine when I was a kid was samosas wrapped in foil to keep warm.

Curry in the flask with naan bread to dip
Baked beans in the flask with garlic bread to dip
Burritos/pizza slices/Cornish pasty/sausage roll/quiche slices kept warm in tin foil. My dd really loves these fish finger wraps in tin foil https://cookpad.com/za/recipes/12505834-its-a-fishy-wrap

If you get a decent sized flask you can put pretty much anything in them, DD went through a phase of not wanting school dinners and we did all of the below:

  • Fish fingers, sausages or chicken nuggets, with a wrap or bread and butter on the side to make a hot sandwich
  • Soups
  • pasta bake/lasagna/ mac n cheese
  • casserole/stew
  • rice and curry or chicken in a marinade

Trick to a food flask is to preheat it for at least 5 minutes by filling it with boiling water and sealing it up. Then put food in piping hot. It will stay nice and hot for about 4-5 hrs and warm enough to still enjoy for another hour.

Risotto with an egg stirred through and fried into pancakes.

Thank you for the tip! I wouldn’t have thought of that
