Frozen rashers - 11 months

Hi I have rashers buried in the deep freezer that are 11 months old. Are they still safe? I am thinking they probably are but for the sake for a few quid I don't want to poison the family!

You won't poison them but depending on how well they were packaged and airtight it's the quality that will suffer rather than the safety. If air was getting at them and they have freezer burn they might not taste great but I'd definitely cook them and see.

I bought packs myself today to freeze, I always have some in there, good packaging is key!

@marylou25 in the pack from tesco

If that is not a vacuum sealed pack as in the packaging tight against the rashers then there could be quality issue. If no air at all in packaging then it's better.

Ate some last week like that. They were fine. Fried up in a pasta sauce - not sure I’d have trusted them to taste as perfect as if they were less old.

@Talipesmum That's exactly what they've gone into. They were airtight and smelt fine both before and after cooking

Excellent, no point wasting good food! 😀

@marylou25 thankfully I am pretty good at wasting very little food. That pack just managed to find its way to the back of the freezer and got over looking!
