I know it's just a baguette but wondering if there's a particular type that would be most suitable? Or if there's any where you can buy authentic ones online?

When I was in Vietnam it was usually just a normal baguette

I always thought it was just baguette no? Now I want a banh mi yum!

Maybe it is just a normal baguette and I'm being silly but Google said it was a specific type 😅. Think I'll just go with a high quality part baked baguette. Thank you 👍

Vietnam was colonised by the French! When I lived abroad, many Vietnamese bakeries also made bahn mi. I too always thought it was a French baguette. Only slightly shorter than the foot long length you get in the UK.
Edit- I make them at home and just a baguette.

According to my Vietnamese friend the bread used in Vietnam is slightly different to a regular baguette. She says the crust is softer.

The crust on a baguette is made by having a tray of water at the bottom while it bakes so I wonder if skipping this step would achieve the right affects.

Honestly though I make them with normal baguettes and they're still delicious so I wouldn't worry about it.
