What do people do with the jar of oil once you’ve used the sun dried tomatoes? Don’t know where to dispose it

It’s nice in salad dressings

RudsyFarmer · 21/11/2023 10:43

Use it in cooking or drizzling.

Wahwoo · 21/11/2023 10:44

Yep, use it! Salad dressing, or as cooking oil for anything Italian.

Georgyporky · 21/11/2023 11:34

I cook with it, fried eggs are good, or anything that a tomato flavour will enhance.

Whatever you do, please don't let it enter the drains. If I have any oil that I can't use, it goes in the food waste bin.

Portakalkedi · 21/11/2023 11:36

Use it! Why would you want to dispose of it?

GrouchyKiwi · 21/11/2023 11:38

I use it in pasta sauces for frying the onions etc. Yum.

Fourlegsandatail · 21/11/2023 11:38

Do not dispose of it! It’s beautiful to cook with.

Any Mediterranean or Middle Eastern recipe works beautifully.

Stir through any pasta dish and add to salad dressings.

It’s also great to simply make more roasted tomatoes with - try Nigella’s recipe: https://www.nigella.com/recipes/moonblush-tomatoes

Moonblush Tomatoes

You may have come across Sunblush Tomatoes in delis; these are my homespun version. I halve cherry tomatoes, sprinkle them with herbs, a little salt and a pinch of sugar and drizzle over oil, put in a hot oven which I turn off immediately, leaving the...

I agree, use it if its not rancid.

If it is off, I'd put it in the food recycling bin, ideally with some stale bread to soak the oil up.

Dig a hole in the garden and pour it in there
Some councils have an oil collection at the tip
Last thing I'd do is put the entire jar in the bin. Never pour it down the drain though.

FizzingAda · 21/11/2023 12:20

All the above. But if you do need to get rid of oil, I soak it up with kitchen roll, and put it in a bag in the bin.

Unabletomitigate · 21/11/2023 12:23

I use it to make foccaccia bread.

Mumski45 · 21/11/2023 12:31

I also use it to fry onions for an Italian sauce. No need to throw it away.

sbsmiths · 21/11/2023 12:47

I would never put it down the drain, hence my question. Thank you for your ideas. Will defo use in pasta dishes

Chop bread into cubes and put the cubes in the oil jar. Then fry off the oil-soaked bread to make croutons for soup.

Genius! I make focaccia but have never thought to use this oil in it. Thanks for the tip 😄

Food recycling?!? Huh?!?

SM4713 · 22/11/2023 00:26

@PabloandGustheGreySquirrels Do you not have a food recycling bin collected from your house? Ours accepts meat, veg, fruit, bread etc type food scraps.
