A few ideas (I’m not proposing you do them all!)
Smoked salmon frittata and salad
Brie and cranberry tart
Welsh Rarebit potato skins www.sainsburysmagazine.co.uk/recipes/sides/welsh-rarebit-loaded-potato-skins
Indian loaded sweet potatoes https://realfood.tesco.com/recipes/indian-loaded-sweet-potatoes.html

The pomegranate seeds on top is a nice festive flourish and a break from Xmas food.

I'd serve boiled gammon, mashed potatoes, carrots and peas with a selection of profiteroles and a lemon cheesecake.

A nice roasted pepper and tomato soup with some posh cheese toasties/panini's would be lovely for lunch.

PurpleSky09 · 19/11/2023 21:38

Above poster has suggested it but I also thought that if it's a lunch then something like a nice soup and sandwich/toastie should work? I'd do it with a nice side salad too.

If wanting something a bit fancier, maybe lasagne with salad and garlic bread?

23rd's a Saturday, so you could probably get away with something a bit more casual, like soup with fresh bread & a dessert? I'd do something like French onion, leek & potato, or celery & stilton, then a slightly stodgy dessert so they don't leave complaining about being starving. It does depend on the guests though & how relaxed you feel around them.

Thanks for all ur messages and suggestions
I may do salmon with a roasted fennel purée, new potatoes crushed and roasted , green beans
and a choc fondant with cherry liquor side and ice cream
