Does anyone freeze tomato puree?

We seem to go through lots of tubes of tomato puree and waste most of it.

Can it be freezed? It is just tomato and a bit of preservative so I don't see why not.

Yes you can. We're the same with ending up wasting it. I keep meaning to freeze it but have failed so far.

DaveWatts · 16/11/2023 19:33

Don't you just put it in the fridge and save it for next time? A tube will last us a month or two here.

My mum used to. She would buy the jars (not sure I’ve seen jars for a while though now) and freeze in ice cube trays. She’s take a cube or two out as she needed it.

The tubes keep for ever! No need to freeze, just keep it in the fridge.

I don't even use mine that often but would never even think of dumping the tube, have never looked at the date on it either lol, sure it lasts practically forever in the fridge. Now the tinned stuff once you open the tin goes mouldy pretty quickly hence I never buy that anymore! But if you want to freeze put it in ice cube tray then into a bag when frozen, I do that with pesto and other jars of stuff that don't last well even in the fridge.

Another here who just sticks the tube in the fridge, it does last a very long time.

Same here. I don't remember ever throwing a tube out!

Am watching Mary Berry on bbc2 as I type and she has literally just advised freezing tomato puree. Never occurred to me, but I suppose it's better than me leaving an open tube in the fridge for months.

Chewbecca · 16/11/2023 19:50

I just leave opened tube in the fridge for months. It's fine.

scrivette · 16/11/2023 19:54

I also leave it open in the fridge ages, never been a problem.

Yes – I've done this for ages. I buy a large jar of it, decant into a plastic tub, freeze and chop bits out as needed. Far more cost-effective than using tubes.
