Tesco on line - do they ever deliver it all?

Not feeling well and couldn't face doing the weekly shop so, for the first time, ordered on line at Tesco.

When they arrived - half an hour after the latest time stated - they had a few changes.

Most notably they replaced Wensleydale and Cranberry cheese with Hot Mex and suprisingly they didn't have Original Hula Hoops multipacks - only assorted flavours.

Instead of 2 six packs of 2 litre Scottish water then brough 4 five litre packs.

They didn't have any free range chicken breasts and some other more obscure things.

Is this normal? Should I give them another try or do they often have things missing (which I'm pretty sure would be in their stores).

My Tesco order is usually fine, most often has a little something I haven't ordered or paid for tucked away for me to find as a surprise.

Substitutions can be a bit random though - last one was when they had no frozen prawns (what, none in the entire shop?) they sent lemon breadcrumbed scampi. And DH said this was fine! Spot the DH who has never made fish pie before

We don't use Tesco any more, although when we did, we usually had a lot of subs. We use Sainsburys now, but they can be hopeless sometimes with loads of subs.
The other week my dh excepted 250grams of smoked salmon instead of the 4 salmon fillets I had ordered

accepted

Kewcumber · 13/03/2008 12:52

my tesco orde ris generally pretty good, but haven't Ocado promised to match tesco price for branded stuff?

Lomond · 13/03/2008 12:54

Last weeks order I was shell shocked as everything was there and there were no substitutions, that is a first for me and I have had a lot od deliveries!

Overrun · 13/03/2008 12:55

Wow kewccumber that would be good if they did, where did you hear that?

Kewcumber · 13/03/2008 12:56

it was on news this week. But obviously you won;t necessarily teh cheapy tesco own brand or BOGOF's (no idea what waitroses offers are like). Will see if I can find it.

Kewcumber · 13/03/2008 12:59

there you go, started yesterday

procrastinatingparent · 13/03/2008 13:01

I usually get the vast majority of my stuff, maybe three substitutions max.

What does really irritate me is stuff close to the sell-by or use-by date. I always ring up to complain and I always get my money back (without having to return the item, obviously). Worth a go if you are unhappy about anything. They obviously still want my custom.

Overrun · 13/03/2008 13:03

Well are are having a waitrose built near us as we speak, so guess I will have to wait till the, but seriously interested in that, as I do like the quality of waitrose products

fluffyanimal · 13/03/2008 13:04

I always specify no substitutions as I have found in the past that they can substitute some pretty inappropriate things. Since then I've been more satisfied with them. I just wish they'd arrive within the delivery slot. This week I had a delivery scheduled from 5pm to 7pm. I only got home from work at 4.45pm and found they'd already been - fortunately DH had unexpectely been at home.

However, I can't blame Tesco for the fact that on this last order I mistakenly selected 6 x 1kg bags of onions instead of 6 loose onions.

Anyone want any onions?

Sainsbury delivered tins of spagetti hoops in sub of packets of long spagetti.
And no matter how many cases of beer I order they always seem to manage to charge me for them all but to leave one on the van!

One thing Tesco is doing right, is offering a non bag shop, which I think is great. All the others will take away carrier bags for you, from any shop. But I think Tesco are the only ones who offer this

VictorianSqualor · 13/03/2008 16:41

My delivery just came.
4pm-6pm delivery, here by 4pm exactly.
£180 total, but with the wonderful codes off ehre plus all the offers etc it was only £150.
Not one substitution.
I do like my Tesco delivery.

handlemecarefully · 13/03/2008 16:45

I flirted with Tesco recently for a couple of orders (decided to tighten belt with recession looming )- they substituted only one or two items so I was quite impressed.

Usually use Ocado who rarely substitute - and if they do, it is generally an 'intelligent' substitute

handlemecarefully · 13/03/2008 16:47

Yes ocado is better hana but an ocado shop generally costs me around £190 and a tesco shop around £130 (I buy the same sort of stuff week in and week out). It definitely works out more expensive imo - so it isn't affordable for lots of families

hifi · 13/03/2008 16:49

mine is always on time, will knock earlier if they are in my road.i choose no subs. only thing that annoys me is they always sell out of my, not dh,white wine.also if wet wipes and nappys are missed its abit of a hoo ha.
i must have a reputation for being amenable as all the drivers ask to use my loo.

tinytotmummy · 13/03/2008 17:09

Don't very often have subs from Tesco anymore, but I do usually have a midweek morning delivery. Their subs are always inappropriate, but if I send them back with the driver, I never get refunded and then have to ring up 3 or 4 times to get my money back.

I do use Asda quite often as well. I know everyone on here is too posh for Asda, but I am very impressed with their subs. If they do sub, they don't charge you any more than what the original item would have cost. For instance, today they didn't have any single packs of baby wipes available, so I got a four pack instead - for the same price.

No Ocado round here

Fizzylemonade · 13/03/2008 17:09

I have used Tesco for years, rarely substitutions and I always write notes and some are a bit cheeky

When we have had subs they have been a good match. We always check internet for discount codes.

If the driver is early he rings me and asks if it is ok to come early.

We have tried sainsburys and asda but always go back to tesco.

Overrun · 13/03/2008 18:09

Where do you all get these internet codes from? I get lots of money off vouchers with my nectar card, but never for online shopping

VictorianSqualor · 13/03/2008 18:28

Tesco code thread
I have it on watch

Overrun · 14/03/2008 08:56

Thanks Victorian Squalor

Does any one have any Sainsburys online codes, I will have to check that thread
