Quick food for DC after school before football training

Any ideas on a warm/filling bite to eat after school and before football training in the winter? We only have about 20 mins before they leave.

They have their dinner when they get back from football at 6:30pm but need something beforehand (school dinner is 12:30pm).

Thanks :)

Quesadilla
Noodles (could add gyozas or some precooked protein)
Have something ready that just needs reheated?

Porridge

Speaking from experience a light snack would be better, warm and filling followed by running and exercise a short time later frequently results in vomiting.

That was my thought. Wouldn’t want to have a substantial snack before going out to do exercise. My boys grab a banana and a glass of milk.

Samosas were the go to pre-dance snack when I was younger. My mum would heat them up and wrap them in foil ready for when she picked us up from school.

Some kind of pasty?

It's peanut butter and rice cakes in our house

As a rule, it's bagels/toast with peanut butter or similar over here or sometimes a protein/nut bar and a small smoothie.

Occasionally, on days when we have late training, I might give him a wrap with something warm inside eg I'll fry some peppers and some halloumi or some chicken and add some sliced avocado and mayonnaise. But to be honest, if he has late training I tend to just give him half of his main meal before at around 5:30 (training is from 7 but he likes to get there by 6:30) and then he eats the rest when he gets home around 845.

If they're home in time to eat by 6:30 I wouldn't feel the need for a meal, even a small one, before they leave for training.

Fruity toast in our house

Surely if dinner is at 6:30 then a cereal bar or something along those lines would suffice? A big filling hot snack isn’t practical or a good idea right before sport.

My DD would have lunch at 12, have a snack in the car on the way to ride her horse after school (typically a pastry/pretzel bread/cereal bar etc, really anything carby and easy) and then come home for dinner around 7.

Thanks all. Pastry/toast/cereal bar sound good.

I do a slow cooker chilli in winter on a Thurs as we are all in and out at different times so we can all help ourselves.
