I think mine has gone up considerably recently, dp disagree's it is to do with the price of food and more the fact i'm buying different food because I'm on a diet.

So how much has your's gone up by?

it hasn't gone up - but i've noticed i've got a sight lot less for my money.

lilQuidditchKel · 10/03/2008 19:12

10-20% (10% if I shop at Tescos and 20% at Waitrose).

ScoobyDYSONDoo · 10/03/2008 19:14

Mine has gone down but i have changed from shopping at sainsburys to Asda & have been impressed even with the food i am buying!

hifi · 10/03/2008 19:15

only gone down as we arnt drinking in the week, cut down on meat also.

Mercy · 10/03/2008 19:16

Not sure tbh. But I know wheat prices have shot up on a global level. I can't remember which country is it but they have banned exports of wheat.

But personally I have noticed eggs, meat (specifically beef) and bread have increased somewhat over the last 6 months or so.

LadyMuck · 10/03/2008 19:19

Well DH drinks Pepsi Max by the gallon so I've noticed that that has gone up from £1.32 to £1.45 for 2l at both Tesco and Waitrose since Christmas. Otherwise not sure that I've noticed a huge increase recently, but then I don't just buy the same stuff season in/season out so hard to tell. Whilst I don't watch the pennies I do still get a feel for value for money and won't pay silly prices for out of season fruit/veg etc.

I shop online at Tesco. My bill for the month is £200 Roughly the same shop a year ago would have been £150.

lizziemun · 10/03/2008 20:09

I was listening to the radio this morning and they were talking about payrises and the cost of living.

They were saying that the average payrise is £40 a month and the cost of living has gone up by £148, this included the cost of petrol(18%) and utilities (13%)mortgages.

So yes the cost of shopping has gone up, I used manage on £200 per month (for DH, dd1 4yrs, me and dd2 nappies and food) but now i spend nearer £300.

OverMyDeadBody · 10/03/2008 20:14

I've had to cut down recently on what I buy so I can still keep within my weekly budget.

Prices have definately gone up, mostly within dairy, wheat and milk, but this is having a knock on effect.

It's the chinese, getting a taste of western food and suddenly consuming huge qualtities of milk compared to the past, leaving a global milk shortage and so pushing the prices up. I have insider knowledge

Iota · 10/03/2008 20:14

I've noticed that my bill has got bigger recently. Specifically the price of bread and meat has gone up noticably.

OverMyDeadBody · 10/03/2008 20:14

I meant diary, wheat and meat

I seem to be spending about £20 a week more, for no apparent reason. I can't work out what I'm doing differently. Judging from this thread it may very well not be my fault! Good. Now to tell dh.......

pukkapatch · 10/03/2008 20:43

i dont think i have had a shop that is less than a hundred in years

colditz · 10/03/2008 20:44

Mine has gone up too. Bread, milk, butter, eggs, all the staples.

I know the reason why - it's because the supermarkets have been forced to stop sodomising the farmers, and that's a good thing - but I don't have to like it

SlackSally · 10/03/2008 21:33

It has definitely gone up.

I never buy meat, but everything else has gone up. Maybe by 10-15% at a guess.

Sainsbury's basics butter is now 85p. Milk is up about 10p for a two pint bottle.

Twinklemegan · 10/03/2008 21:36

The thing I've noticed most is bread. £1.20 for a sliced white loaf is too too much. I'd buy the cheaper own brand stuff, but there's only ever a day or two to go before it's best before date.

WideWebWitch · 10/03/2008 21:40

Well, I just did a pivot table on last month's bank statement and we spent over £900 on food for 4 of us BUT (before you are ), some of that was doing a food shop when we stayed with friends for a week - £158; doing an extravagent M&S shop when were were on holiday, £120 (lobster etc); and my buying lots of M&S ready meals as I am out of the house such stupidly long hours.

So it's GOT to go down, we were managing on £400 odd at one point.

WideWebWitch · 10/03/2008 21:41

And I've def noticed petrol, I was spending £36 odd to fill up, now it's nearer £50

Twinklemegan · 10/03/2008 21:43

Oh God, don't talk to me about petrol. We moved up to north Scotland 6 months ago and in that time petrol has gone up by nearly around 9p a litre. It's currently 109.9 at my local Esso - blardy daylight robbery. It's not like we exactly have many other options either.
