Meals for conflicting needs / desires!

Any new suggestions to cater for difficult mix of food wants?! I am not trying to please everyone all the time - impossible anyway. But everyone needs something over the course of the week.

Dh needs to eat plain food right now, think low histamine, low fodmop. His preference is things like burgers, chips, lasagne.

Dd aged 9 doesn't eat meat. Doesn't like much dairy eg milk or butter. Doesn't like food in sauces. Will eat some types of fish, some pulses, lots of veg and loadd of fruit. But doesn't like stir fry.

Ds aged 6 likes more stereotypical kid foods, sausages, burgers, most meats really, salmon only, more limited veg but likes broccoli, carrots, green beans. Doesn't like baked beans, sauces, pulses, stir fry.

I like most things, I would eat more curry, stir fry, Thai food, veggie food, if left to my own devices. More quick veg heavy. Spinach, cous cous. Which makes the kids cry.

I'm a decent enough cook. I make from scratch. I accept unhappy children sometimes. But I'm bored. Some new ideas would be welcome.

Also I am not good with fish and need to get better at cooking and eating it, for Dd. Ds currently doesn't like fish, except salmon 🤦🏻‍♀️

These are great and can be adjusted to suit flavour requirements. My fave is with cumin, paprika, oregano and dried coriander. Chuck in some salsa and sour cream and it’s heavenly. (Also sweet chili sauce rocks with this combo). Can also be eaten with a simple salad and no bun.
There are some lovely recipes for bean burgers and beetroot ones on Pinterest too.

@NeunundneunzigHorseBallonz what are they? :D

Roast a tray of vegetables as a base. Serve with meat/fish/veggie protein as suits so say chicken for DH and DS fish or veggie protein for you and DD. You could use seasonings for those that want them and keep the others plain.

Niçoise salad- but don’t mix it - just present all of the elements and people can have the bits they can/will eat with or without dressing.

Sausage salad - as with the Niçoise salad suggestion offer chopped up sausage/veggie sausage, potatoes and roast veg, leaves and garlic aioli. Let people eat the bits they want. I normally do potatoes, peppers, onions and tomatoes at the end but I see no reason something like sweet potato and broccoli wouldn’t work.

’Mexican’ bowls. Rice for everyone. Beans or refried beans for you and DD. Chicken pieces for those who eat it. Veggies - maybe corn and peppers? Salsa/sour cream/guacamole/jalapeños/cheese to taste.

Jacket potatoes or sweet potatoes. Offer three fillings. Say slaw, cheese and beans. People can choose one, two or three or eat it plain.

Chicken/veggie katsu. Without the sauce for the one who doesn’t like it with rice, broccoli and green beans on the side.

Laksa-ish. Do the veggies and protein (maybe prawns?) separately to the curry soup element. Those who don’t want sauce get plain noodles, prawns and veggies. You get something more to your taste. If noodles are an issue for your DH use rice in his. You could do curries in a similar way.

Would they eat shepherds/shepherdesses pie? Or is that too saucy?

Basically deconstructed meals you can customise by adding or leaving out the sauce/seasoning/bits people dislike. But I feel your pain. My kids are fussy in separate directions, it’s an exercise in patience. And I will feed them separately to us most school nights as DH gets home after bedtime.

Thank you @WrensAreAllDinosaurs i really appreciate some new ideas! Deconstructed is the way I normally do things. I've just completely lost my mojo!

I'd say fish, heavy on the salmon, is probably something you need to eat more of as it's the one thing that sort of works for everyone! You can do it different ways - we like it with soy, lime, ginger and garlic baked in parcels in the oven or just cooked in the airfryer. I've seen lots of tray bake ideas.

Could you turn salmon into fishcakes? Perhaps tinned salmon with mashed potato (is potato FODMOP?)

I also think that once they get used to fish, they'll start trying different kinds.

Build your own foods?

Like do mini pizzas or use naans as a base and let everyone do their own toppings.

Tortilla wraps with various fillings that people can pick and wrap themselves.

Fajitas / Tacos but do one with chicken and one veg based

Chickpea burgers
