Impressive homemade after dinner treats

Demeter1978 · 31/10/2023 13:34

We’re going to friends for dinner in a few weeks and would like to take some homemade treats to have after dinner with coffee. Our usual go to is Baci Di Dama however this couple have a son who has a nut allergy and also one of the other guests doesn’t like nuts.
Our friend always pulls out all the stops when she hosts a dinner so I’d like something a bit special but not something that takes hours to make.
Has anyone got any suggestions/tried and tested recipes?

Meringue nests? They take a while to cool in the oven but the actual prep/construction is pretty simple & fast. They look quite grand too, if you sandwich them with some whipped cream and fresh fruit.

Truffles? They're actually quite easy to make and nut free. Or some sort of nut free chocolate bark - with dried/candied fruits, coconut, etc.

Nut free macarons https://tasty.co/recipe/nut-free-macarons

Espresso Fudge (you could artistically drizzle some white chocolate on to look prettier) https://mildlymeandering.com/espresso-fudge/

Nut free florentines (replace Almonds with oats or there are various nut-free recipes if you google)

These macarons are a sweet and delicate treat that are perfect for anyone with a nut allergy. Made with a crispy shell and a creamy filling, they're a perfect afternoon snack or dessert.

I usually make Nigel Slaters brownies and cut them up into smaller than usual squares. Perfect bite sized treat with coffee.

Tiffin. I especially like one made with ginger biscuits, dark chocolate, crystallised ginger and sultanas. You can cut it into nice dainty pieces and dust with icing sugar to look pretty...or have giant slabs of it with a mug of tea like my family...

Brilliant, thank you everyone, plenty of ideas for me to look at, especially the truffles and espresso fudge.

A couple of quick ideas when pushed for time...
Strawberries half dipped in dark chocolate, also dates or soft dried apricots etc. shortbread biscuits work well too.
Small ramekins filled with chocolate or coffee mousse,

If you've got some time, caramelised orange slices or peppermint creams.
