I have both books by this lady named Sam Rice who writes a lot of recipes prioritising health and nutrients - you don't need to buy the books though, here are lots of free recipes to scroll through and see what strikes your fancy:

I also love Nigella Lawson's "temple food" concept - an old episode of Nigella Bites but a good one:

Out of noseyness, are you feeling in need for healthy food because there’s few healthy options there, or just because you’re on holiday and you’re choosing the cake (fair enough!). Not been on AI for a very long time but wondering how it works.

For me, dal and rice is a perfect post holiday meal. It’s simple, nutritious and quick to make. This is my favourite recipe. Can also add spinach if you want to have some more vegetables.

Tadka Dal

I’ve made Tadka Dal hundreds of times and it’s often my “go-to” recipe when my brain is having a moment and can’t decide on what to make for dinner, or if we have ran …

Sorry I replied and it didn't post!

I am choosing healthier options (omelettes for breakfast, salads for lunch) but also pastries and there is a lot of oil in the sauces / stews
It's very repetitive so I am looking forward to cooking clean foods at home!

Tuna steak stir fry
Steak salad
Lots of fresh fruits

I want to do a nice big clean shop 🤣🤦‍♀️

Ah that makes sense. I always feel that way after Christmas but never quite know what to do with it. I think a Thai salad with lots of fresh herbs and spices in is what I tend to feel like.

I know exactly how you feel. Every year we go visit family in the USA and we've now done this enough times that we do a massive clean eating/health food drive when we get back literally because we always overdo it and the food there just seems stuffed with sugar and mysterious fats. You know when you cook an American recipe and it says something like "drain off the fat", well you really have to do that even using fresh chicken from the supermarket because there is just SO much grease that drains off. Even salads are covered in sugary dressings, fried stuff, cheese on everything and portion sizes gigantic, and too much time in the car.

Over the years we've done the Whole 30, gone veggie for a month, cut out sugar for a month, done Louise Parker method recipes, and a few years ago we ate nothing but steamed fish and salads for a week. This year I dusted off the midlife method cookbooks and it worked well - lots of fibre, seeds, fermented foods, yoghurt for breakfast, really thinking about nutrient density and we felt much better after a few days. Knock off the booze for a few weeks as well. You just need to do it when feeling a bit greasy and bloated after a holiday and need a bit of a reset.

A reset is needed and I feel so ready to eat all the fresh foods and exercise!
I don't drink so haven't had the effects of that this holiday! But all the bread and sugar have been consumed!
I'll have 6 weeks of reset just I. Time for Xmas 🤣
