visitors wanting a cuppa have a choice of green tea or Earl Gray

you would never use virgin olive oil to FRY for heaven's sake

you never buy wine at the supermarket as the choice is so boring and limited

your child looks at a picture of a fish finger and honestly has no idea what it is

Any more for any more??

You find yourself wondering whether your partner's incredibly vague answers to your daily question about what he had for lunch ('a sandwich' - yes, FFS, I want the DETAILS) are a sign of your basic incompatibility

serenequeen · 17/12/2004 21:36

in fact, i think, he, and one other person i know were the reason for that thread...

MancMum · 17/12/2004 21:42

motherinfestivemood - totally identify with that! My only issue in my relationship with dh is his complete lack of interest in food - and he is a trained chef! If we go out for dinner, he would be as happy at MacD's as any 5* restaurant and when I ask him what he wants for tea, he always says 'Whatever teh kids are having' as his taste has not developed from aeg of 5 and he genuinly loves chicken nuggets and thinks I am odd as I read cookery bookds in bed! Reading Nigella et al is only way I get to enjoy food!"

serenequeen · 17/12/2004 21:44

... you grind different coffee beans for different times of day...

moondog · 17/12/2004 21:44

You are returning to Britain for Christmas and your suitcase is stuffed with walnuts from a cooperative by the Iranian border, special cheese made with wild herbs, the wrinkled artisan producer of which you have met and conversed with, boxes and boxes of Baklava, organic clementines, quinces (tell me where you can buy quinces in the UK and I will die a happy woman) and olives.

Oh...and a couple of pairs of knickers and a few reags for the kids..

OP posts:
serenequeen · 17/12/2004 21:47

moondog, i bet you can get quinces at borough market...

SilentBite · 17/12/2004 21:48

You get depressed in any supermarket other than Waitrose.

"Value" ranges make you come out in a cold sweat and push your trolley very fast indeed.

You sit in Pizza Express wondering when the amuse bouche is arriving

You really can't understand why they can't have Riedel glasses in every restaurant

motherinfestivemood · 17/12/2004 21:48

Moondog, you can get quinces at most Turkish shops. I didn't realise this till a friend (and great cook) pointed out that the Turkish shop we were passing was stuffed to the gills with quinces, and that this is par for the course. And I live in a deeply downmarket bit of Sarf Lunnon.

Incidentally, given your Sure Start connections wot I just noticed on the Annoying Annabel thread, I have just written an article on projects improving kids' eating and knowledge about food in general - especially in areas of deprivation. There's some fabulous stuff going on. The picture is not nearly as gloomy as some of the hand-wringing surveys suggest.

motherinfestivemood · 17/12/2004 21:49

You genuinely feel that Ocado changed your life.

moondog · 17/12/2004 21:50

God I dream of visiting Borough Market!!

V v interesting MIFM. Anywhere that I can read said article?

BTW, Turks here eat quinces raw!

moondog · 17/12/2004 21:51

Ocado???
Don't know what that is!
Am panicking now..quick tell me...what what what??

OP posts:
motherinfestivemood · 17/12/2004 21:51

It'll be in one of the Haymarket publications in January. Or CAT me for it as you'll have quit Blighty by then.

MancMum · 17/12/2004 21:52

motherinfestivemood - you are me! I wrote to Ocado to thank them for delivering up north!

serenequeen · 17/12/2004 21:52

cd, if you sit in pe, back to the non foodie thread please!

StuffTheMagicTurkey · 17/12/2004 21:53

Ocado is the thing that stops me reducing the cost of my food bill.

moondog · 17/12/2004 21:54

Thanks-will check it out. Home every two months anyway.
Still worrying about Ocado..

OP posts:
StuffTheMagicTurkey · 17/12/2004 21:55

Waitrose online shopping = ocado.

motherinfestivemood · 17/12/2004 21:55

Ocado is the Waitrose delivery service.

I believe Marina is the goddess to thank for the fact it delivers to my scruffy part of the capital.

CountessDingDongDrac · 17/12/2004 21:57

NO, I am seriously pissed off with ocado. See my thread....

CountessDingDongDrac · 17/12/2004 21:58

(I went to PE with a client for work and they chose it, I had no option!!!)

moondog · 17/12/2004 21:58

Aaaagh!!
No Waitrose in North Wales
Still....many compensations.
I can go cockling and collect samphire,AND buy the best crabs I've ever tasted for £3 each from a farmer on the Lleyn peninsula!

OP posts:
motherinfestivemood · 17/12/2004 21:58

Moondog, it's a weekly publication. I think (she says, vaguely). But I can send you copy if you like.

CountessDingDongDrac · 17/12/2004 22:02

Oooh moondog I love the Lleyn peninsula. We used to go to Morfa Nefyn to the beach and it is bliss!

moondog · 17/12/2004 22:05

Oh yes, Morfa Nefyn is lovely.
MIFM what is the name of the publication? Available widely or only in London? Would really love to see it.
Good friend works for The Daily Telegraph.Maybe he could procure me a copy. (Don't want to put you out>)

motherinfestivemood · 17/12/2004 22:10

It's called Children Now, social care stuff, not that difficult to get hold of. Been running a year now.
