I did his "real" spaghetti bolognese which was truly delicious.
Also his sausages with salami and lentils (but without the salami - still lovely though)
Chickpeas with chorizo (off his website, not from the book)
Lamb stew, which I wasn't bowled over with at first. But I froze half of it, and when I reheated it added a little cinnamon. He says eat the day after cooking, and it was certainly better the second time around.
Finally, his smoked mackerel on toast, where you mash smoked mackerel with cream and parmesan. I've never had smoked mackerel before and wasn't sure if I'd like it, but it was gorgeous.
People say there's a lot of cream in some of his recipes and it's true, but I used about a third of the cream he recommends in the mackerel recipe. Also, when I made the cheesecake (my first ever!) I substituted half the mascarpone with cottage cheese (because I accidentally didn't buy enough of the other ), but it worked really well.
I love the man. To eat food that tastes, well, like real food not something knocked up at home - that's really satisfying.
