Halal chicken

Georgyporky · 21/10/2023 18:01

I bought a yellow-sticker Halal chicken, that I'll be roasting for dinner tomorrow. I'm not Muslim.

This might sound strange, but is there anything I should know about cooking Halal meat, anything I should do differently?

It's just meat that wasn't stunned before it was killed.
Nothing else special about it. 😁

WhateverMate · 21/10/2023 18:02

Why are there no cooking instructions on the label?

FallingAutumnLeaf · 21/10/2023 18:16

It cooks just like the chicken you are used to.

95%+ of halal meat in UK is stunned

Said by someone who knows nothing about Islam and has based what they think they know on the Sun / Daily Mail.

Get a grip.

siriusblackcat · 21/10/2023 18:49

Wel halal slaughtered or not it still causes pain and distress. The other way isn't being kissed to death by unicorns and butterflies...

siriusblackcat · 21/10/2023 18:49

That was in response to @IthinkIamAnAlien btw.

Do you only buy meat that’s been cuddled to death ?

lokimoki · 21/10/2023 18:55

@AgaMM thank you for calling this ignorant Islamophobic poster out

lokimoki · 21/10/2023 18:57

@Georgyporky back to your question, just cook it how you meant to cook it halal or not.

I’ve also reported it. Hope MN recognise the Islamophobic nature of the post and ban the user.

Halal chicken in a supermarket is likely to be stunned before slaughter, just like non halal slaughtered.
No difference in cooking it.

Georgyporky · 21/10/2023 19:26

Oh dear, didn't mean to stir up trouble, just asking for cooking advice.

I thought that Halal meant that all blood was drained, & should I therefore add more liquid.

Dubonet · 21/10/2023 19:29

Never bought non halal meat, but is blood not drained out of it too?

Most meat is drained anyway afaik.

All meat if killed in this country is stunned before slaughter - it is the law ... thankfully. In this country, if killed under halal, the animal has a prayer said over it before stunning.

This is according to major supermarkets I contacted (Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsbury's). The only supermarkets who did not reply to my enquiry was Lidl and Aldi which is why I will never buy meat from them.

KnickerlessParsons · 21/10/2023 22:09

Well that's good to know. I stand corrected.

Well it's not the law according to the RSPCA.

Current UK law requires animals to be stunned before slaughter, so they don't feel pain. However, Jewish and Muslim communities aren't required by law to stun animals before slaughter. All Shechita (Jewish) and some Halal (Muslim) slaughter involves cutting the animal's throat without stunning them first.

Quite. The Islamaphobic posters should have a look what goes on for the chickens that aren't halal.

QueenBitch666 · 22/10/2023 01:00

Your chicken skipped its way to its inhumane slaughter after having a spa day and a massage while desperately fighting for it's life
Does that make you feel better?

Bunda · 22/10/2023 01:33

Sorry there's been such drama on your post OP.

No need to alter your cooking. Cook it you always would xx

Jelllytot · 22/10/2023 01:37

As PP says, you cook like you would a non-halal chicken. Source: someone who has cooked both versions of chicken and have been received happily by consumers 😁

Georgyporky · 22/10/2023 18:04

Many thanks for the helpful replies
