Can I get a sense of perspective from you? How bad is it that my DS1 will not eat any veg?

I've been worrying about it for ages and I think the things I'm doing are only making his dislike of veggies worse by turning it into a big deal if you know what I mean.

He's 3.9 yrs and has always been not that interested in food generally - even as a baby. I thought most kids where like this til I had DS2 (7 months) who opens his mouth whenever the spoon comes near!

Anyway, DS1 eats; wholemeal bread, all diary products, most fruit, pasta, fish, chicken, rice when with something like chilli etc. But he wont even entertain the idea of a carrot! The only veg he gets is what I hide in things like chilli or from hummus etc.

My DH tells me not to worry about it as he'll grow into eating veg at some point but I feel like I should be doing something to encourage him. Would you just leave him be for a while or try some new tactics - and if so what!!! . He does't eat raw veg sticks or veg in cheese sauce, or when his friends are doing it either.

Thanks!

Poor dd2 would never have survived in the stone age then! She would devour fields of brocolli if available.

She chokes on apple, spits it out, then stuffs it all back in again.

Bet that's fun to watch fondant. Actually both mine have always liked brocolli too so would be in a similar pickle.

My children's fussiest stage was between about 2 and 3 1/2. I already think DD is coming out of her fussy stage. The problem with DD is that she is lazy about food and eats small portions of anything except sweets and chocolate.

Mine, thankfully all eat a fair amoung of fruit and veg.........unlike me, when I was a child. I would run a mile in the opposite direction of anything green or vaguely healthy looking!

The good news is that now there's little I don't eat. I enjoy most veg and what I'm not overkeen on, I'll eat anyway. Tastes tend to change and I think most of us grow out of childhood food fussiness.

In short, I wouldn't worry about it - his diet sounds fine and he's getting in what he needs to keep him healthy.

Food battles are a stress we can well do without imo.
