My little one, 1yr old, has dairy intolerance and also intolerance to nightshade vegetables ( potato, sweet potato, onion, pepper, tomato) he will eat pasta but I can't find a sauce that doesn't contain at least 2 of these ingredients. Anybody know of a sauce I could buy or make that is actually tasty and doesn't contain these vegetables? Know it's a long shot but am hoping someone has come up with their own recipe as I'm a terrible cook so don't really want to try myself and make the baby Ill 😆 thank you in advance

When DC were little, I found a weaning recipe for a pea pesto which was frozen peas, olive oil, basil, pine nuts (optional) in a blender.

So simple and the sweetness of the peas made it taste amazing

@KirstenBlest thank you for the suggestions. Discovered couple of weeks ago that my little one really loves cous cous so will definitely try using that

@colouroftherainbow ooh that sounds lovely and I'm definitely going to try that one as my little one absolutely loves peas so hopefully that'll make a perfect combination with the pasta. Thanks

@Devilsmommy , you cook it by pouring boiling water to cover it and leave it for 5 mins. It will say on the packaging. Do not stir it. When all the water has been absorbed, fluff it up with a fork.
If you stir it it's like wallpaper paste.

Mixed frozen veg are quick too. I can't do frozen spinach but the bagged fresh spinach is great in the fridge for chucking a handful or two in whatever you are cooking.

Soya chunks are pour boiling water over and leave for 5 mins too.
I sometimes bung a bit and bulghur wheat into soup to make it into something hearty.

@Devilsmommy we use Applewood vegan slices. They taste really good imo!

@Storminateacuppa funnily enough that's the only Vegan cheese me and my husband will eat too, it's got a lovely smoky taste imo but my little one gives me that look that says "do you actually think I'm going to eat this travesty of foodstuffs?" I've tried all of the non dairy cheeses and he's just not having any of it😭 I've been thinking of trying him with the vegan cream cheese in the hope that as it's not in cubes he won't realise it's the same thing 😆 worth a shot anyway

Ah, that's a shame. Also just had a further thought (apologies if this has already been suggested). Vegan mayo, tuna/chicken and sweetcorn for a pasta salad?

Storminateacuppa · 25/09/2023 16:50

Or I guess regular mayo may be OK actually?

Devilsmommy · 25/09/2023 19:58

@Storminateacuppa yes normal mayo is fine and he loves all fish and meat so that's good for me 😊
